Wrong! I know people with big houses and several mercs that will always go for these people.Deserve what they get tbh.

SteveArrrghh, all those bolts and then the last few would be corroded and then snap. 🙁
I remember them from my short stint at National Homecare. Never again!

ParticipantRe: Enough to make you vomit…
I went to one a while ago, door opened and the smell hit me like a punch in the face! Common sense didn’t kick in so I started breathing through my mouth and followed the guy into his kitchen. The whole floor was covered in a layer about half an inch thick with dog hairs and God knows what else.
I swear it was moving! 😯
Still, once in the kitchen I was faced with something out of a holocaust movie. Everything was covered in dust/grease you name it. Flies were everywhere.
The guy asked me if I wanted a cup of tea as he had just boiled the kettle, obviously a couple of my brain cells were still functioning because I said no.
It was at that point he stopped stirring his cup of tea and took out the teabag and threw it into a corner. Where there was already a two foot pile of mouldy, rotting, smelly teabags piled up against the cooker I was there to fix.Intelligence finally kicked in and I told him that I’d forgotten something from the van and I’d be right back.
Like I hell I did, I just got in drove!!!

I don’t think it went ‘smutty’ just a few people explaining some of thier experiences (not in detail neither I may add).

You’d be amazed I suspect.

ParticipantRe: Fuel Prices
Where do you think Tesco, Asda, Morrisons etc. buy thier petrol from? Esso/BP/Shell. That’s who. So the impact will be a sideways shift, rather than any real detriment to thier overall sales.
Also, 69p a litre? Just not going to happen, never! Yes fuel is lots higher than it should be, but it’s not ever going to reach those lows again.
Finally, sending ten mails out in a chain mail type spam.. once again, bad idea that most people will have filters to (rightly imo) reject it as spam.
Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you that prices are too high and the market is being milked, but I just don’t agree with your methods or your assumptions.

ParticipantRe: Ever date a customer?
I started doing this job from the age of 23 (Indesit/RHL is what they used to be called). I’m now 46.
I don’t think people would believe some of the offers I’ve had when I was younger, and even more unbelievable is the type of people they were and some of the situations. 😯Nothing surprises me anymore.
One day I’ll get up the courage to write some of them down.

Jim.
Agreed.
I’ve had several where the appliances have been ‘installed’ very tight, and then the floor tiler has come and done the floor. :rolls:
Gameover, walk away.

ParticipantRe: Stainless Steel Renovator
I used to use the rubberised blocks when I repaired Russel Hobbs SS kettles many moons ago, They were made by 3M as well and did pretty much what you’ve just described.
I’ve not seen the since I left that job though, but I’m sure they must be available.

ParticipantRe: Unusual request
Go to the job, charge your normal charges etc. Then tell him that as you were very busy you didn’t realise that this was the customer in question.
At that point I’d point out that you’d probably wouldn’t have done it anyway as you have a good reputation to keep up.
Present him with a fait accompli and there’s nowhere he can go with it without making himself look more of a tard than he already is.

ParticipantRe: ISE 2 machines are they any good?
I currently rent out a load of Bosch Wm’s to a local Uni. Come the new contract at the end of this year I’ll be looking to swap these out for the ISe’s machines.
I’m wondering wether to go for the 2’s or the 5’s, what’s the price differential and relative benefits?
They are all in private accomodation so the guarantee should still be good?

I’ve had the documentation on my desk for the last couple of weeks, I keep intending to get around to it.
I used to be on the ‘Age Concern’ recommended list of contractors and bloody hell they were a hard bunch to please! I never got much work from them but I did have the satisfaction that I was only one of a very few appliance repairers in Nottingham that made thier grade. 🙂

Robert.
That’s madness imo. I have a friend who’s recently stopped working and we wondered why because he had tons of work. We found out why he was always busy and why he’d burnt himself out… he was doing jobs fo £20 here and £30 there, including parts! 😯
I have a bottom line of £40 plus parts, the only exception to this is if it’s very local or an OAP and the job is a walk in and walk out. That of course does depend on individual circumstances and is at my own discretion.
Back on topic, work has started to really pick up in the last month or so an it seems to be getting busier. (fingers crossed).
