Almost certainly going to be the PCB at fault.

Sounds like the relay is dropping out due to load, probably as a result of damaged incurred when the heater went ‘bang’. Alternatively it could be chip damage, either way I’d put my money on a new PCB.

Not want you want to hear I know, but modern PCB’s don’t take ‘bangs’ very well 🙁

    In reply to Alex:

What you say is true about the genie being out of the bottle and yes it does seem hopeless when looked at it in that context, but…. The textile industry has had it far worse than practically any other and the sweatshops almost mirrors what appears to be happening to the white goods industry. But with lots of public pressure about the conditions invovled it’s starting to change. Yes it’s a very slow process but it is happening. Look how many brands now advertise that they are supporting fair trade and other similar schemes in order to distance themselves from that despicable practice.

I know the anology is a bit of a stretch, but if the enviromentalist card is played the same way with the white goods industry I don’t see things as being irreversable.

But then again I’ve always been an optimist.

    Interesting thread.

If you really want to make a change with the enviroment in mind, forget the government or the manufacturers.
Get Greenpeace or Friends of the Earth invovled. Whether you like them or not, they’re extremely vocal and are fantastic at getting thier message across, very often to the detriment of big business’s that are riding rough shod over the consumer and the planet at the same time.

I no longer drink anything at a customers house. I’ve seen too much after 20 odd years :eeek:

I’d have said it was more a case of low temp washes combined with the ever decreasing quality of the water supply.

Not loads, just enough (£20 extra) to make it viable and also to deter the time wasters.

Amazingly I came out of a house last week to find a parking attendant in the process of writing a ticket for my van say ‘oh, you’re working mate? No problem, we all have to earn a living’.
He then got on his moped and rode away leaving me ticketless and gobsmacked! 😯

It’s extremely bad in Nottingham. Massive building spree of private apartments in the city centre. They’ve just forgot to put in adequate parking.

I wouldn’t say that town is a ‘no go’ area any more, but I only go if:

    a. I’m not too busy

    b. They have pre arranged parking

    c. they’re willing to pay extra because of the amount of time it takes to get in and out of town.

There are some places like Victoria centre flats that no one goes to. These are very time consuming to get in and out of, and most of the tenants are unwilling to pay a call out fee in the first place. 🙁

As a comet engineer you do not have access to all the relevant information. As an Indesit engineer I do.

Lol, as an ex Indesit engineer (I worked for them for 10 years) I know that we were the LAST people to actually know what was happening. I think Brian Moore called it ‘working as intended’.

There are a couple of practical bits where you do a formal visual inspection and a PAT test then its a multiple choice exam done at a PC with 30 questions. You are allowed to consult the Code of Practice in the exam 😆

It’s called an ‘open book’ exam and yes it is a piece of pish, but (amazingly) out of the 12 of us there, 3 of the already ‘qualified’ electricians failed. 😯

It’s a one day course, and there are several regular courses all over the UK at a cost to you of around £300 (ish?).

That’s a bit steep. I did mine last year for £125, for another £35 they chucked in the management course as well. (I did both and they forgot to bill me for the management course, but no doubt they’ll get me when I do the 16/17th edition later.)

Is that the White Knight one?

If so, then just pop the control panel off and access is quite easy.

    4 tag thermistor/stat.

2 grey wires go to the 10 & 7 o’clock positions. 2 white wires (the thin ones) go to the 2 and 5 o’clock positions.

That’s taking it from the factory fitted position. If someone has re-fitted it and skewed the position then this isn’t much help to you.

Don’t you find it amazing how you have to tease this information out of them a bit at a time?

I went to Bosch W/m the other day, and as I walked into the kitchen I just happened to see a worn carbon brush on one of the worktops.

It took me a good five minutes of gentle persuasion and ‘interrogation’ before the lady sheepishly admitted that her husband had taken ‘some bits’ off.
