Shine a torch up both ducts to ensure that there is no blockages. A partial blockage caused by a bit of tin foil can cause these sorts of problems.

Gosh! Earthing! I hadn’t given that a thought. There is no earth tag on the heater tray. There is no friction as the tray is just sitting on the fibre insulation. It’s a two inch high cavity!

Anyone following this thread… the base element is fitted by removing the left hand side panel.
Not really brain science but it wasn’t obvious.

Thanks for the pictures Mal, I do have the TDS disk but thanks anyway.
I’m thinking that there must be a bit missing from the machine as it just can’t be right. If the appliance was carried with a slight backwards tilt the element tray would just fall backwards. This is basically what happened to this appliance and it shorted out the mains terminal block. I think it must have moved due to vibration from the oven fan.

The tabs bent over at the front are holding the element to the tray. There are a few unused tabs but nothing to secure the tray to the machine. It’s a real mystery.
I was hoping that perhaps someone would recognise the element and shed some light on how it should fitBob

Here’s the element.

I think the model number for these cookers is on a rating plate that swivels up from the top of the machine just to the right of the center.

ParticipantRe: Creda Spacesaver D/Wash – no heat
Sad really… I woke up two o’clock this morning thinking about this. 🙁
During the heat pause, the timer motor is shorted out by the nc thermostat contacts allowing 240v to the heater. When it reaches temperature the stat opens and the timer motor is then in series with the heater allowing the timer to advance out of the heat pause. The timer motor then stays in series with the heater for the rest of the program. This is why an open circuit heater on this machine will give the impression that the timer is stuck anywhere in the cycle.
Therefore it must be the thermostat (or wiring) faulty in your case.

If I remember right, the timer motor is in series with the heater on these machines. An earth fault on the heater will give a [neutral] supply to the timer motor and advance the timer.
Have you meggared the heater?

Could be that the heater or the heater relay is breaking down before the temperature is reached.
You need to check the water temperature.

Thanks Dave, there are two elements showing on Connect. I wasn’t sure which one it is.
Thanks again

I take the right hand side panel off on all stretch belt jobs. It only involves removing the kick strip and facia to reveal the screws.
The ‘special’ hotpoint tool is no better in my opinion to my 13mm long reach socket. However, I believe that the idea is that you pull the belt over the cupped end of the tool, which, as you say, requires two hands.

I have read somewhere else on the site… use the old belt to pull the new belt into place. What a fantastic idea. I will try that next time.
