You will goose your motor if you carry on using it!!!

An 8 mF capacitor will cause the motor to overheat. The thermal overload in the motor might cut in to protect it but it can still cause serious damage.

The current drawn through the capacitor rises to the square of the difference of the capacitor rating. (ie 1.8 times the normal current if you fit an 8 instead of a 6mF !!!)

You will be able to get the correct capacitor from this site. email spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk

    Hello Adrian

The motor does not have a centrifugal switch, the capacitor is in circuit all the time the motor is running. Are you sure that the original capacitor was an 8 mF? I would have expected it to be 5mf. I can’t find a listing for the capacitor, only a complete motor. Someone else here will no doubt be able to verify the value for you.

You need to check the capacitor again to see if it has blown. Easy if you have a capacitance meter, not so easy without!

Capacitors can fail for no reason but it is unlikey that the new one has failed to be honest. If you have fitted the wrong value then you may have overheated and damaged the motor.

Just a thought… You mention that there are suds in your machine… That could be your problem. Dishwasher detergent does not foam up. It may be that your machine has been contaminated with a foaming chemical such as washing up liquid or overdose of rinse aid. The circ pump may be working but not circulating due to the bubbles…

I think I remember a similar fault. It turned out to be a short circuit in the pressure switch. It’s in a high level if I remember.

The machine thinks it still has water.

    Re: WD640 Re-accuring Test Fault

There’s another thread somewhere on the same theme.

I am convinced it is due to RFI. I have a customer that lives in the middle of the woods, miles from the substation. His supply voltage is all over the place. His machine kept going into test mode every few weeks.

He has now invested in a surge protector socket (like you use for the PC) and I have not been back for several months…

    Worth a try

Is it the spray arm itself that has come adrift or the whole upper spray arm assembly?

The whole assembly fits on the underside of the upper basket and moves with the basket. The spray arm simply clicks onto the assembly with a twisting action.

    Done several of these.

Count the broken blades when you take them out.

A broken blade left in the heater will cause a blockage later on…

I’m with Richard here. I always take the door off when changing elements. It takes two seconds!

I find it very difficult working at arms length undoing the screws.

Another hint… use your crocodile clips from your meggar to keep hold of the wires when you disconnect them. If you drop them through the back it means taking the appliance out.

I always meggar the machine when finished through the interior light bulb.

Not sure whether this company can deal with small orders, but their range is quite impressive…

These are not for the spring clips. They are for crimping the metal band types.

Only used them yesterday for the first time. I used it on the supplied hose clip that comes with the merloni dishwasher pump. I’m sure it will work on any crimped type clip that we see in this industry.

If the relay/control unit was faulty, surely the whole appliance would die and not come back on until it was started again.

I would go for the thermal overload in the motor… Did you fit the correct rating capacitor? 7uF I think…

It’s an electrolux. Information can be found on the TDS disk and parts are available through normal outlets. There is a PNC code on the rating plate
