    Re: Hotpoint DC26 Slimline D/W

if its the synchronous type i’ve seen the occasional pump ‘hunting’…ie….the impellor turning backwards and forwards at high speed rather than rotating…check for any amount of stiffness when rotating the impellor by hand as this is the giveaway 😉
…as for replacing the pump if you are careful you can undo the two front base screws once the sides and kick panel are off and carefully hinge the tub back…one foot holding the base down, one hand pushing the cabinet back and the other hand clutching a block of wood ready to prop it open ;)…easiest if the outer door panel is off too but do make sure it’s propped securely though…the tub seams at the base are like guillotine blades!!!

    Re: Service Software

    Hi Toni
Very interested to hear this….i am also a one man band!
I do have a couple of questions though….when you take your bookings do you keep your Palm OS to hand and enter them directly or use the old fashioned (!) paper system first then add the data in after? Secondly, when you’re at a customers’ house do you keep a second paper system (pre-printed receipts) to write out on completion?
I can see the benefits of a calendar and To-Do list etc but I’m most interested because my accountant (old school friend) has got the barefaced cheek to consider retiring next year lol, and i’m considering taking on the full book keeping myself using the inland revenue online system. Now,do you know if its possible to interface this with some accounting software?… if so then the effort will be more than worthwhile for me. 🙂

    Re: Bosch Dishwasher Door Latch

Rod…the latches are not adjustable themselves, if there is a problem with it then it needs replacing as an assembly. Sometimes mis-alignment between door and cabinet can cause problems too.
If you post the model number (top edge of door or underneath front edge of worktop) then more specific advice might can be given.

    Re: old Ariston Margherita AV838C

    Hi doc
The term filter can only be applied loosely to some makes…more like a trap to catch solid objects like coins and buttons in many cases…if it were a gauze type filter then ‘about time i cleaned it’ would happen every month or so!
If you have stuff getting on your clothes then you might try running a descaler or three through it (there are chemicals specifically made for washing machines)…beware though you may need to clean the ‘filter’ after each dose…you’d be amazed at how much scum/limescale can build up in an older machine 😉

The sump will always have some water in it although if its draining correctly this will be below the level of the filter.
As Martin asked….do you hear the drain pump making a noise as soon as the machine starts up?

    Re: Hotpoint WMA31P motor

…and if you follow that advice then for heavens sake be very careful! Personally if i were to do that i would only do it on a test bench with the motor secured down to something very solid (a one horsepower motor going straight into full speed off raw mains produces an awful lot of torque)…so i personally would never reccommend anyone else doing it!
Far better and much safer to meter the motor with a multimeter…if the circuits are ok then a functional test can be done with the motor reinstalled in the machine.
You commented on the armature being damaged…when brushes wear out they produce a uniform burning or pitting in the commutator which can be easily smoothed with fine emery before brushing clean…maybe thats all thats wrong with the original motor?

never heard of one Danny…but then i’ve only been in the business for 26 years 😆
B&Q tend to stock some ‘budget’ appliances particularly their own brand stuff, much of which was/is made to order by other manufacturers, always at a low price and almost as one-off’s.
In other words the chances of buying one now are about as rare as rocking horse dung :rotfl:
