    Hi tricia

Sounds very much like something has burnt on the heater and damaged it, in which case there may be further damage (its possible that a fluff build-up has occured)
I would strongly advise you get a qualified engineer to look at it for you rather than ‘having a go’ yourself.
Have a look in Repairs@ to see if there’s someone local to you?

I’ve now registered too….perhaps it might have even more participants (and therefore clout) if this got posted in the publicly viewable sections Chris?

Yes….allow yourself plenty of time, space and cups of tea!

Seriously, it is a big job for a professional albeit straightforward. All the components that form the bearing seal need replacing (usually the cause of the bearing failure in the first place) and if you’re unsure then replace the tub halves seal too, its not expensive compared to the rest of the components.
You do need to be sure of the condition of the bearing housing in the tub, any sign of looseness or misalignment will require the tub to be replaced as well. Often this is only revealed once stripped down.
As to sourcing the spares, have a look in the Shop@ or contact Dave Conway who i’m sure can provide them for you.

Yes…you seem to have a partial blockage within the machine…this is probably not serious.
If you have checked the filter in the base of the machine, and carefully checked underneath it for any blockage too, but it still won’t drain then its time for an engineer.
Have a look in Repairs@ to see if there’s someone near you.

    Re: Weird and Wonderful thread

Reminds me of my time at Hoover some 25 years ago….we were told about a cylinder model that was being trialled which had a voice module in it. It would chirp up with things like ‘the bag is full’ etc when required. Needless to say us engineers thought it should really say things like ‘you missed a bit in the corner’ etc 😆
Suprisingly it never got past the trials stage……

None that i’m aware of….indeed there are typically only a couple of makes of ring fitted in all common hobs so if it fits, it fits! (you’ll prolly find a like for like size will give you the same wattage anyway)

If you are in a hard water area it is essential that you use the correct salt in your machine, it is good practice to use salt in any case.

Just unscrew the plastic cap in the base (about 4″ diameter) and completely fill with the dishwasher salt, refit the cap and the machine will take care of the dosing.

Re: Hotpoint WM52 tripping the electrics?

Oh dear….sounds like the drum bearings have failed big time i’m afraid…the belt slipping off is due to the excess play in the now destroyed bearings and i suspect the drum has moved so far that is has caught the element which is now causing the trip to go.

Depending on the extent of the damage it’s questionable whether it is worth bothering to fix.

You might try finding an engineer in Repairs@ to give you an estimate, but brace yourself it won’t be cheap!
