ParticipantRe: Indesit wd125
Thank you for that.
How many times a day do I say to customers ” We can’t do anything without the correct model number”.
I should be Bl**dy ashamed of myself….
Thanks again

ParticipantRe: Brittannia cookers
Was tech manager with Britannia foo 5 years until 2004. Not a bad cooker but for the same price have a look at Lacanche and Mercury.
Mercury are British built in Lincoln and are a cracking good cooker with good service back-up.
Lacanche (FdeF.co.uk) are also a great cooker, ultra reliable – we’re still fixing them at 10 to 15 years old and they are worth fixing!
Rangemaster are currently having all kinds of quality probs so stay away for now.

ParticipantRe: De Dietrich DTI304B Induction Hob
Thanks Martin but have verified live & neutral to each of the powerboards (info from link).
Re the ATAG, if its valid, there seems to be some common part numbers between FAGOR and De Dietrich induction hobs – at least on Connect!!Regards

ParticipantRe: Dodging CORGI regs to fix oven?
The “correct” answer is in the Gas Regs from 1994 onwards. To undertake “work” on a gas appliance you must be defined as competent to do so. Only persons that have undertaken an ACS in a particular classification can prove competence and be listed by CORGI as competent.
The action of disconnecting and reconnecting a bayonet is defined as a consumer action not covered by ACS or CORGI.As an non Corgi engineer working on a dual fuel appliance you could come unstuck many ways e.g. Public Liability insurance – not covered if it comes to the crunch as you have undertaken “work” on a gas appliance without proven competence.
On top of the foregoing, where does it end – changing the ignition electrodes, ignition generators, indeed most of the work on a dual fuel range does not involve disturbing the gas pipework – but are you sure that the cooker is 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} safe when you leave it. Is the injector firing up the burner venturi correctly after removing and refitting the hob top and is the aeration correct?
There are many similarities where gas pipework is not disturbed but would you consider changing a solenoid coil on a gas boiler without considering the risks to the client or your business. Even the action of changing a simple thermocouple can be hazardous as many pilots have atmospheric sensing built-in – fit the wrong T/C and they won’t work correctly and somebody could be overcome by CO.I don’t believe in CORGI as they are a money making enterprise and are not doing what they were originally set up to be but I do believe that anyone working on a gas appliance – whether its gas only or dual fuel should have at least the basic training and equipment to verify that the appliance is 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} safe after working on it. I’ve simply seen too many cock-ups to think or believe otherwise.

Oven is around 5yrs old and was ok until around 6 months ago. Its a double built-in with the main oven at the top.

ParticipantRe: Hygena APL3418 door sagging
Definitely worn or stretched hinge springs. Also check the rollers (hinge support bracket roller – take the door off and with a screwdriver see if the rollers are not “wobbly” on their shafts).
Can’t trace part on the “usual suspects” -are you sure of the model number ?

ParticipantRe: Computer help needed. Argh!!
Thanks to everyone who tried to help. As a last resort I went back to the company who wrote the program in the nineties and asked how to run it in XP.
They are a friendly bunch and said its not worth the aggro and they could GIVE us a version of the program that is outdated for them to sell but will work with XP – all I had to do was import the archive files from a wizard.
Now have access to the history.Once again thanks to all who tried to help

ParticipantRe: SMEG UK80MFX1 thermal cutout
Unusual for tangential fan to suddenly pack in unless some rubble has dropped into it or its laden with grease and fluff.
Please be aware that this is a gas appliance and that no advice, other than to obtain the services of a CORGI engineer, can be offered -especially as the fan is situated under the hob.

ParticipantRe: La Canche
Sounds like a Lacanche Macon. (Oven below small grill/oven area)
A 2 or 3 turn Zanussi 2500 watt long neck (eg Connect 3460) will fit but will need clip nuts over the plate because of the screw hole diameters.
Alternatively, F de F (01202733011) can supply original but they are approx £54.00 list price (don’t mention the Zanussi elements for goodness sake!!!).
NB Check the fan for good RPM – they are very prone to slowing down due to tightening of the drive end bearing with a rapid demise of the element.
Any other info needed PM me.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Its a bit hectic here at the moment
(youngest son gets married on Friday, Grandaughters birthday in Lincs last Saturday and middle sons wife announced she is pregnant yesterday) and workwise things went mad Monday. So far have tried IADOM’s suggestion but without success.
Was going to try Gegsys suggestion for Win98 mode but couldn’t find anything in XP about it!
Hopefully things are a little quieter tomorrow AM as all calls are PM and early evening. WILL let you all know as soon as I can – once again thanks for the help
