Ian, have a look at the Bosch website explanation here:

    http://www.bshappliancecare.com/Bosch/Bosch_20773.html

There’s a couple of short videos there about it, one of them should be pretty much like yours as there’s only a couple of types of hinge generally used.

The tacho generator coil I think Martin 😉

It’s more likely a short there would have damaged the power control PCB than the timer.

By the way, this is a Smeg manufactured appliance.

Re: two door 14 year old AEG:water dripping from freezer doo

Yep, the drain hose from the fridge to the tray on top of the compressor is blocked.

At the rear of the fridge where the ice forms, when it defrosts it runs down in to a channel then via the hose/duct to the tray on the compressor to evaporate. If the hose/duct is blocked, the channel overflows, hence the water under the salad bins and then runs down via the door seals on to the floor.

Check that again, I know you said it had been, but I think it may solve your problem 😀

Is there any water under the salad nins in the fridge ?

If not, then it does look like an insulation related problem, especially given it’s age.

It may well continue to operate like this for some time, apart from the obvious dripping water problem.

Possibly, although you would normally expect this to happen to a fan in the freezer compartment where the ice is formed.

Alan, South Glos wrote: if so how best to cure?

Switch it off and let the whole unit defrost for 24 hours with the doors open and try it again.

    Re: Smeg FC40RX fridge/freezer

I would suggest you switch the freezer off altogether, the thermostat for the freezer compartment should have an off position normally.

No you can’t test them, they are sealed units, wait for an engineer please;)

Pop up your postcode and I’ll check the directory for you, there may be someone here who can get there more quickly.
