HIYA
Thanks for the invite. this site should be renamed the labirynth as it has more layers than an Andrex bog roll. I can see that the new policy is to burn all bridges behind us. I dont think there’s anyone left to insult is there ?

Is’nt this the arrangement that was meant by the agreement of DASA & UK WHITEGOODS working more closely together.
DASA will never be able to react as quickly as UKW over topic’s, by the very nature of the two different structures of their respective organisations.
UKW does not need to find a consensus before it reacts to any given situation. It gives a platform and instant access to any member with concerns over a particular issue. We may all think that it is very democratic but only in so much that it allows free speach.
It is mainly driven by it’s contributors and editors, and although viewed by thousands as the hit indicators show it is therefore still only the particular opinions of a small section of our industry.
And let’s face it, not all members of UKW could be regarded as stalwart friends we all know that repeated attempts for access are made by what we would consider to be our natural opposition. Who are using the site as a barometer just to see what they can and cant get away with. Some of them would even be rejoycing in the streets if this site were no more.
DASA may be slow but it is still here 30 odd years and two generations of the Watt family futher on. It shares many of the same concerns that UKW does and some people find that continuity and tradition reassuring.
It’s a little bit like the tale of the ‘ Hare & the Tortoise ‘ so let’s remember that tenacious plodding can also bring it’s rewards.
The main logg jam from DASA has been removed and a new determination is emerging, so let’s give it a chance.
You, and the UKW team have given of your time and effort to help in it’s relaunch, in designing and compiling the first Edition of Orbit in years and for that fact alone Dasa should be able to see that it is constuctive critisium you are trying to offer. I suppose we all need a bomb under us from time to time.

It’s 9.30 p.m. Sunday and I ‘ve just got back from Jason’s bash in Yorkshire as My good Lady decided to break the journey home with a shopping extravaganza at the Trafford park shopping centre in Manchester. Thank Christ they close the place at 6.pm or she would still be there trying to wear out the magnetic strip on my flexible friend.
Alex, sorry to hear that you have been upset and to the best of my recollection of the meeting, nobody, was actually singled out by name with regard to having been allocated any work by MFI.
Obviously over the last week or so DASA has had some major criticisums made against it and the council felt that some of the flack was not entirely justified and felt that it had at least helped to direct some work to it’s members. Namely the MFI. work.Nobody but nobody denighs that two of the major contributors to these negociations were the leading lights of this very site, who at that point in time were working under the DASA banner. in so much that the initial contact was made directly to the DASA office.
Granted that at that point in time Nesn and Anglo Iberian were the main networks for distributing the MFI work and let’s face it Alex none of us were too happy with either one of them, especially with regard to rates and the amont of rejections agents were getting with regard to their handling of said work.
I for one was more than glad of it when it came along as it came at a critical time for my business and I have personally thanked those involved in it’s aquisition especially as when it came via the Network- Dasa route, the rates were much enhanced.
As the comments you made were on the DASA forums I can only assume that Old Tog took it that Dasa’s defence to some of the statements made were directed at you personally, were as my take on it, was that it was a general statement to any DASA member who benifited from this additional work, myself included.

Ken,
You’ve got to remember that Scott has only one voice on the council and I can tell you that his was not the majority view at the comittee meeting. So please lets not have persoal slagging matches in either UKW or DASA. You run the risk of being accused of acting in a similar manner to that which you are justifiably complaining about.
I was under the impression that you were to be contacted about certain concerns that the committee had, and that no action of any kind was to be taken until you had had chance responded to them.
If we are all to degenerate into personal attacks then it gives no credit to either organisation. The guy’s in this forum understand what it is you are trying to do and support you fully so all i’m goin to say is what my kid’s tell me when I go off on one and that is …….CHILL !

Alex,
Perhaps you should have asked her if she would ever be tempted to buy Indesit again ? 😯

ModeratorRe: DASA!
It’s a chicken and egg situation, we are all agreed that a credible figurehead is required but there simply isnt the resources to be able to fund one at this point in time.
There is no qiuck fix answer, to a problem that was allowed to develope over years. IMHO It is not a realistic proposition to ask the remaining members to dig incredibly deep into their pockets to fund such a person.
And by Fund, I’m not just talking about salary, he would require a car and an initial hefty buget to allow him to reorganise and turn round the organisation. To ask someone to do this on a part time basis and achieve the results we would require, no matter how gifted or energetic that person was, would also be unrealistic and doomed to failure.
The only option Dasa has, is to hope that the remaining members will get more involved and to take on and share the workload between themselves for the time being, to allow the funds to build to the point where the favoured option can be considered.
I’m sorry to sound like an old scratched gramaphone record but the start point has to be communication.
The council has to use the DASA web site to inform the membership that the organisation is in dire straits and needs the help and support of the full membership to run itself in the short term. But if the council members are not seen to be active on their own site and are not willing to get the message across to full membership then i’m afraid there will be nothing that anyone can do to aviod the inevitable.Regards as ever Del

The daft buggers think they are going to save the rain forrests by using this crap, the only thing they do is crud up the machines quicker.
But why should we worry, its an easy call. so perhaps we should all be buying shares in the stuff. 😆Regards as ever Del

ModeratorRe: advertising
Remember not all electrical shops carry out their own repairs, some are just retailers only. When I started, I approached three shops in my local service area and they passed me work for a comission. It accounted for about 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my work in the first eighteen months so it might be worth trying still. I agree with the other lads about not spending too much on YP, but a small ad in the local paper doesnt hurt. far better to keep it small and regular rather than large and sporadic.
Best of Luck Del
P.S. Remember the harder you work at it, the luckier you get !

What can I say other than ” IT HAD TO HAPPEN” It is the next logical step.
The main question now is when do you plan to break the news to the rest of the site and the trade in general.I would ask Ken, that you make your wishes on this timing crystal clear to all the members of the subscribers forum, as we dont want to let the cat out of the bag before YOUR good and ready.
It is quite clear that you will recieve your strongest support from the members within this particular forum as they have already shown committment with their continued support for the site, as well as the fact that they have also displayed their readiness to put their money where their mouth is.
It will obviously make one or two organisations within this trade very nervous when they see the arrival of UKW. Ltd. on the scene. So I feel that some direction would be useful.

I hav’nt found the need to to send a PM to Martin thus far as I have only spoken as I have found.
It was just that the possibility of him being admitted to TWR had been muted, I was’nt too sure if this was just a joke or if it was a real possibility. Martin is no doubt a very good engineer and he is very ready to offer advice to others on the site. As we are all aware he is a one man band. This does not mean that his engineering advice is any less useful for that fact. But thus far he has also been just as quick to offer advice to members who are employers and carry out commercial/agency work, about which, I am sorry to say he know’s FUCK ALL !
That is not to say he would not be capable of doing it, just that he has decided on another route and would be on a very steep learning curve indeed, if he chose to do so.
If his inadvertant eavesdroping has taken some of the wind out of his sails, then perhaps that might not be such a bad thing. Perhaps we could all use a little humility at times.Regards as ever Del …………….even to Martin if he get’s back in !

ModeratorRe: Gbdar/Dyson
A lot of the trade and the Great British public gave this guy a lot of support, even though his products were overpriced. People supported the brand with a great deal of loyalty. Is’nt it a shame that Dyson was not able to return that loyalty to the staff who helped him achieve his success, when he decided to move his production abroard.
I dont think he managed to con too many people a second time with these joke machines.

Do you not think that we are now sitting on a time bomb till the next time he get’s pissed off. I dont think TWR will be a secret for long when he next goes off on one.
