    Re: Wheres Martin !

So far Penquin has contributed on a regular basis and has had some good point’s to make. He also contributes to off topic forums and seem’s to have a good sense of humour.
I also like Ernie as he talks straight and takes no shit, only thing is he doesnt post that often so would he be interested ?

As for Martin he’s too far up his own arse for my liking, the only thing he has’nt posted on yet, is when he last cut his toenails.

Andy Art Trigg was a liability from the start, he did’nt quite grasp what democracy meant regarding members views on basic standards of customer care and the need for public liability insurance.

    Re: One Million!

I have to agree with Penguin, and I’m sorry Martin but your resignation to the status quo of ‘nothing will change’ I feel is a little too defeatist.
What we need to do is to set up the UKW REVIEW in some form of a comparison table format. It need’s to have seperate pricing bands.

A lot of customers feel they have been duped when I inform them that they have a badged appliance, so this fact needs to be shown also.

Which magazine came unstuck with this when they praised one appliance and slagged off another and both were the same make and model with different badges on the front. This is where we will score, as our reviews will be done by engineers not journalist’s.

CJ, you think that our advice will be given too late. i.e. after a customer has ALREADY made their choice. I would only say come with me down to my local rubbish tip and see just how many machines under 3 years old are being thrown away because the customer feels that they are not worth repairing. I personally think that some of those customers might be seeking some good advice before they purchase the next one. You can bet your life they wont be buying the same brand and a lot of them wont buy from the same store if they were sold a heap of scrap.

Once or twice in it’s short history UKW has tossed the odd hand grenade
at some of the culprits of bad engineering. But to deliver an annual timebomb would really make e’m sit up and take notice.
I for one like the idea and I’m also convinced that we are the only people who can do it right. I vote we go for it.

    Re: One Million!

    Peng.

I really think you’ve put your finger on it, yes there is an absolute gold mine of information on this site. Provided you have a year and a half to read through all the post’s. We need some way to corolate the info at a glance, because the easier something is to use, then the more people will use it.
I know that Ken has asked people to do reviews on products and one or two members have done just that, but not everyone is a natural journalist myself included. So if someone could come up with some kind of table format as you have just sugested then I feel sure that more of our excellent engineers would contribute to keeping it updated. We almost need a Libriarian now to guide people round the site.
We cant keep expecting our admin team to do it all for us, So if there are any net nerd’s out there who think they have a solution let’s hear it.

    Re: UK Whitegoods Meeting No.3

I will posting detais on accomodation and meeting venue very shortly.
So dont worry too much about wandering round Stafford, you won’t be disappointed.
Stafford was chosen as it is very U.K. central and has excellent road and rail access.
It is on the main west coast line from London Euston. It is also on the M6 motorway (junction 14) and is just north of the M6 toll road, so those comming from the south wishing to avoid the nightmare that is Birmingham’s spagetti junction, can simply spend £2 and avoid it completely. It also has good east west road connections.
The Hotel I’m trying to arrange is less than 1/2 a mile from junction 14 of the M6 Motorway with an excellent bar/resturant right next door.

The important thing for now is that those wishing to attend let us know A.S.A.P. so that we can book the hotel and resturant with firm numbers.

It is a chance to meet your workmates and to meet people in exactley the same boat as yourself, exchange ideas, contacts & experiences.
By the very nature of our trade we are all to often, left to feel isolated. But you will be supprised to learn that there is a wealth of untapped comeradery and support from the people who communicate daily with one another within the UKWHITEGOODS community.

Just a thought but do we have anyone on the site that is a member of RETRA or a member of Euronics as I’m sure you cant be the only one suffering from bad service support to your retail customers Dave.
It might be interesting to get some other independant input on Merloni/GDA service levels to their customers, as this might proove to be be a national problem.

Is’nt it all a great shame that this nettle, could’nt have been grasped a dam site earlier and saved everyone concerned a great deal of what now appears to have been needless grief.

Most of the contributers to this site rang warning bell’s an awfully long time ago, that noboby at the time wanted to heed.
It just adds creadence to the old saying of “What goes around, comes around” !

That said, I just hope that the new management team can repair the emence amount of damage done and have hope that they have now come to the realisation that bully boy tactics simply dont work.
I do wish them well as they have their work cut out for them.

In conclusion, I would just like to advise my fellow UKW MEMBERS than if anyone ever again puts a contract in front of you for work. Then for christ’s sake READ THE DAM THING !

Could we not call Rudi out of retirement for one more comment before he dissappears into oblivion.
He was the champion on this issue, and therefore should be the first one to comment on the news.
Go on Rudi, one last swan song.

Just goes to show what a shower of fucking bastards Merloni are, Sitting like Vultures on the fence waiting to pick up a few of Kev’s engineers.
It is obvious that the fact that they are trying this out in Sheffield is no accident and that they view this site to get their information.
I just hope the free advertising we have just given them on the topic will help to fuck em up.
Like me old Dad used to say ” Don’t get mad Son, Just get even ! “
I can only assume that Alex must be on holiday or he would have been in with his two penneth.

    Re: Hotpoint Advertise Franchises!

Well, Well, Well, It’s does my old heart good to see to see some of the pea brained ideas from Merloni coming home to roost.

Even when they used the independant trade It was mission impossible to make any money out of this firm. Alex said it all when he ditched them two years ago. when he reported on this very site, that his turnover when down and his profit margins went up.

So if you could’nt make money as an independant, what chance do you stand as a franchisie, perhaps we should ask the Whirlpool guy’s i’m sure they’ll offer an opinion or two.

Ken, I speak as one who’s been there and done it and was very lucky to be able to afford a tee shirt when I’d finnished. so please dont hold your breath expecting a fair deal from this crowd, it simply wont happen.

It is quite obvious that D&G are not very happy with them as they have been asking the world and it’s dog to undertake the work at a fixed price and there’s hardly been any takers if any.
So they are understandably demanding that Merloni honour thier sevice level agreement.

Perhaps the best way forward would be for D&G to offer the work out to the trade at normal commercial rates plus normal mark up on spares and reclaim this cost from Merloni, as they are the ones that are failing to meet minimum standards of service to the D&G policyholders.
But as this is a common sense suggestion I dont suppose it will be taken up.

    Re: PKI

    Kev,

Just like Alex said I was one of the agents that got shafted by Merloni 12 months after. 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the workload disappeared within a month when they gave the work to gda and the icing on the cake was that we lost another 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} two months later when mr moat at servis uk did a similar deal with gbdar. Had it not been for you and one or two others on this site giving me advice and helping me to recoup some work, such as MFI and not to sign stupid contracts, then there but for the grace of god would go I.
Can I just wish both you & Bridie my very best wishes. I know you are already working on the next venture, you will have planned for this i’m sure, your just too canny a lad not to have.
Hope to see you both again soon in the not too distant future.

    Re: Use Of Funds

Just an Idea so dont shoot me down, but why cant we let Li advertise his web hosting services on the site as most of the trade are well aquainted with this site now and must surley realise that the Lad has done a good job of keeping this site up and running.
Although I may not be as prolific with my posting as some I can assure you that I log on to the site at least twice a day EVERY DAY and have never found it down yet. Which is more than I can say for B.T.
Ken will confirm that I have Baddgered him on a weekly basis to close more of the site off to people who are not willing to contribute towards its
upkeep and to at least recompense in some small way the tremendous amounts of time and effort put in by our admin team.
Ken,Dave we all know your not in this for the money, but can either of you put your hand on your hearts and say that the amount of time & effort you pair have put into this site has not caused you some grief from your respective partners & families ?
You would’nt expect one of your employed engineers to work for nothing and IMHO niether should the members of UKWHITEGOODS expect it from you.
I’m sorry to aire this in public it’s just that I would like to guage the opinions of the other subscribing members of UkWHITEGOODS.
My Main reason for doing this is that I am aware of additional services that you would like to bring to the site and it would seem to me that we are now at a crossroads with the site. DO you let the monster grow even more and develope it further.
because if you do you are looking at a full time committment to the site either from yourselves or someone else capable of the day to day administration. Let’s face it, with the best will in the world this could not be undertaken by well meaning part time enthusiasts whilst running your own businesses. Therfore it would require funding for which you will require more subscribing members than you have at present.
The main reason for this IMO is that too much access to this site is given for free.
I Feel that people never really fully appreciate or respect anything that they are given to cheaply.
As a group we have a great wealth of hard earned experiance, skills, technical information, business contacts,ect.ect. and it pain’s me sometimes to see it all given away for nothing to gifted amatures.
If I have offended anyone with my comment’s then I appologise in advance as it is never my intention to give offence just thinking out loud.
I do feel however that these are pertinant questions that need to be addressed before we could move this site to the next level.
