I remember thinking they should be the easiest appliance to fix – just a stat and a compressor.
😆 I remember my fridge training when I was at Hotpoint, I had been doing laundry for about 18 months when I was issued with a box of thermostats, including a couple for gas fridges, 😯 a few door latches and lamps, three complete systems, 211,212,213 mounted on metal frames and informed I was now a fully fledged fridge engineer. 🙂Life was so simple back then. 8)
Jim.
I seem to remember them issuing a charging rig that used a normal fridge compressor to use as a vacuum pump. 😆

andy_art_trigg wrote:Thanks K, I’m sure you’re right. I just can’t get my head round the fact that the fridge clearly is cold enough to trigger any thermostat, whether set to monitor ambiant temp or the evaporator. The fridge is at 0 degrees even at the top where it’s the warmest.
I never repaired fridges apart from for a few months and I could never get my head round them.
How do you ensure ventilation? This one’s built in and there’s a kick strip underneath. I can’t see how it could get any ventilation at all. Does a grill need fitting in the kick strip?
All it means, Andy, is that it is not cold enough to trigger the stat at the point where the capillary ends. could be -20 just above that point but the stat does no know that. Common complaint on all wet lined evaporator fridges, ie most made today!
just one word of advice. scrap.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: Whirlpool Top Loader not spinning
assuming the rubber/plastic coupling is OK then I would think its a gearbox problem. Not too difficult to sort out and probably worth the effort.

Take the cabinet off chaps, tilting these things back do them no good at all and is unessesary. IMO Someone went to a lot of trouble to make these easy to service in situ and the fact the machine does not even need moving means it is quicker and easier to remove the cabinet. 2 screws and 2 spring clips.
Seamy, tell us more about what it is doing? ie motor running?

ModeratorRe: Hotpoint BWD20 washer drier.
Open circuit pump is a common on these, often caused by 5p in the pump. Also heater failure, various NTC’s and I think even carbons can cause this problem.
the smaller of the 2 modules in the single casing is for the drier only. Modules normally quite reliable unlsess obviously blown out. Pressure chamber is behind concrete weight on front of tub! Can usually clear it by blowing water down the tube with a syringe.
Front panel of machine does come off for servicing, the trick is there is a hidden screw behind the control panel that needs to be released from inside the machine using a small phillips screwdriver with your hand up the gap when the door seal is unlipped.
Check also motor and heater wires dangling on the base plate (if fitted on this one) have been known to wear through the insulation and short out. The smeg version also has a float in the base plate that sometimes burns out, think that is deleted on the Hotpoint version though.eastlmark

OMG Fasetester has been let loose on a SMeg 😀 tried to take the door apart without removing the outer wooden panel. 😀

ModeratorRe: AEG 2060 Turbo WD
Now that brings back memories. Got to be the most heavy washing machine ever made….
part number was 899645424577 and I think they were made by AEG themselves. Think Whilpool marketed the same model as a Bauknecht at one time. Looks as though it is obsolete now though.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: Philco 1012
Jim that was a great machine, one of the last great Philco’s. Keep it on the road at all costs!
No electronics to blow, other than a motor speed module which never goes wrong. Would suggest its just a faulty door interlock but give the heater a megger check before fitting. also give the dispenser inlet pipes a poke as they may have leaked and run along the console panel and into the door lock.
Timer was the only issue on these, losing the final, 1000 rpm spin. Timer sadly obsolete and a lot of these have been scrapped for that reason. 😥
there are 2 versions BTW and the only way to tell is the presence of a quick wash at programme 5, (look on the programme guide on the dispenser) The one with the quick wash is version 2. Door locks the same on either: C00052845(BTW all these parts can be found on Partfinder)

Not doubting you, just curious 8)
If he were a houshold name, a Hill, Herbert, Mansell, whatever, they would not need to hide his identity and surround him in a mist of intrigue. If they named him then most of the viewers would just say what you did, who he?
Ben is a houshold name in our houshold but not in many across the nation I would guess.Anyway, think the top gear thing has been rung dry and failing miserably and as for Clarkson, deliberatly destroying a concours condtion Alpine A610 in his latest supercar video only proves the guy doesnt really give a toss about cars once the general public can drive them.
