Chris.
It always baffles me that someone designes machines that can be serviced from the front and then goes and does something like this, ie. bung 2 screws in the side of the control panel that cannot be accessed without pulling the whole machine forward. Same with the old hotpoint 95’s the screws were behind the damn timer knob, meaning the lid had to come off just to release the knob. Yet the original versions had 2 piece knobs for a short while until someone thought better of it.
Miele are sometimes no better as although the whole front hinged nicely, it would be impossible to do this if it was close to a wall or cabinet due to the hinging action.eastlmark

It does worry me these days that most appliances have dispensed with safety stats. Do they really think the electronic controls are 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} reliable? Seems like this one doesnt even have a fused heater.
We came across a miele the other week which was even worse as the heater relay is straight off the terminal block, even the on off switch wouldnt turn the heater off!eastlmark
ModeratorRe: W/machine perfect for Noahs Ark!
Yes the 64 S and its taller sister the 84 s were/are great machines. The cabinet falls off to work on it, the filter is around the back, hidden from the customer. The baffles came out so you could get something out of the tub as the inner drum lid was removable, which also caused problems if the customer forgot to fit it back after loading up and all the washing would drop out down the sump hose and wedge the whole drum up. And the suspension was something else as it appears to mimik a citroen 2CV as you push it around the kitchen (oh yes, it was on wheels).

Hey chris, is it too late to point out that you can change AEG carbons form the front? 😆

You did the right thing not letting the spares go without documents, remeber Neils sad tale of GBdar and the parts that were colleted and then the denial that they had been collected. Not sure we ever heard if that was ever resoloved.

Why is this in the subscriber forums? Surely a lot of others on the site would be interested in this.

ModeratorRe: John Peel
I heard this while out today and was going to start a thread here about it but was pleased and surprised that I was beaten too it.
I dont go back quite as far as Alex, but his influence on me was huge, be it music, home truths or just growing up without growing old.
I miss him already.

Welcome to the club! unfortunatly its not only merloni who play this game. perhaps we should get together and form a crap new machine mountain.

ModeratorRe: help w.machine drum not spinning!!
Assuming the belt is ok and actualy on, rather than on the floor, the problem could be motor, motor brushes, module or the wiring between. The whirring noise you hear is probably the pump running. Take the back off to check the belt, remembering to remove the plug first, beyond that you will need expert help I think.

ModeratorRe: Customer trying to claim on insurance.
The customer is actualy pretty lucky that the insurer will pay up at all as they have not gone through their correct claims proceedure which would have directed the job to the D&G agent/manufacturer or whoever in the first place. This will probably be pointed out to the customer on this occasion and your nice profitable customer may be forced to go elsewhere in the future. …and have to put up with crap service from the manufacturer and then realise how good you are Chris and will rather pay you and loose out just to get something done quickly.

ModeratorRe: Basic Electrical Safety
I’ll have a go at that one, anyone any suggestions of what other subjects should be added ? Other than the plug wiring as already mentioned, I am thinking extension leads, fuses… anything else?

ModeratorRe: Domain names
Lets face it, you would have to be pretty desperate to have .biz as your main domain anyhow. I mean no one ever uses it unless they really have to.

ModeratorRe: Code letters
AEG, pre Electrolux used to always term a timer as a “PGS”…..for some reason, We think ProGramme Selector but maybe a more German origin was to blame.
…and Hotpoint had their PMC which was a combined Thyristor and Diode in one package that would occasionally imitate a handgrenade.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: Indesit we16 fault code F03
I think you will find its related to the wash heater themistor. This is built into the heater and pretty much impossible to test without replacing it but you could check the wires leading to it. The code is only a guide though and does not nessesarily mean that this is the problem. Remember to isolate the machine from the mains before removing any panel or the lid.
