ModeratorRe: air locks in hot water system to washing machine
as a matter of interest, what make machine is it? Most machines these days fill only from hot on the very hot programmes only. If you only occasionaly run a 60+wash, the cold fill conversion has to be your answer.

ModeratorRe: Another Indesit timer clicking round
We had one of these (model W161) the other week where the wires from the “timer” had rubbed on the tub (surpringly stainless steel on this one) and shorted out. We repaired this but still had the timer clicking around stuff so had to change the module.
I think in all the talk about changing EE proms, no one had pointed out that although the new module comes without EE prom, its not just a matter of swopping from the old module as some of these are soldered in rather than in a socket. I wouldnt give much hope for one of these surviving being desoldered even using a heat shunt.
The moral is, order the correct EEprom with the module. and check those timer wires are well away from the tub before fitting as it may wreck the new module at switch on…..
……or just scrap the machine!eastlmark

ModeratorRe: What is the most useful tool in your toolbox?
A clamp meter. You know I dont know another engineer who carries one.
So useful to check machines are heating or not. You also need a very short extension lead with the outer insulation taken off as you have to clamp around a single wire (although RS do one that can be clamped around a mains lead).eastlmark

ModeratorRe: UK Whitegoods
what about giving the person who started a thread, the option of deleting it. Often tech and spares enquiries are there clogging it up long after a solution is found. I use other PHP forums where this is possible.

True, but this wouldnt re set and, as said above, was only cured by a new pcb. Thanks for the input though.

ModeratorRe: Which are the worst washers to buy?
Not only that but Merloni, well Servis UK I mean have completely stuffed the ASKO brand. They now do “ONE” model of washing machine, have discontinued all white versions (stainless only) and sell thru TESCO direct at £100 cheaper than I can do. The sales staff at Servis dont give a toss about it and have nil product knowledge, the deliveries are always late and without exception every one delivered will have at least damaged side panels and the service network is now ONE man, John Hinkinson, who admittedly does a good job, but one man covering the whole country! All in all, I wouldnt be surprised if they dropped the brand altogether in the UK (yes I offerred to take it of their hands) and they cannot recognise a quality product if it was dropped on their heads from a great height.
