Door lock will need replacing obviously but if you open it up once removed you will be able to tell if the lock itself was the problem.
There is a small ceramic heater inside which makes the bi-metal switch work.
This can break down and cause failure.

If the door interlock has failed you will have to apply some brute force to release it.
I usually give it a tap using a socket extension bar and hammer which will release the door catch.
    Power off first!

Even scarier is that also today facebook showed me a photo of a certain Ian Dales residing in Boston Lincolnshire who is well known on this forum suggesting that I may know him.

So how did it make the connection as the only people I have as friends on facebook are family :eeek:

Re: Washing machine blowing 6.3 amp fuse

The fuse should be 6.3A TL (Time lag) which will carry more than the 6.3A rating for a brief instant as the motor starts up.
The fault could lie with the motor start switch or the start capacitor or if the gearbox has jammed.

However well written the instruction manual is and how many red notices the manufacturers put on these appliances or any other for that matter amounts to nothing as a large proportion of the dip*hit owners will never read or understand them.

How many times for example have you asked the customer to get the manual out to show them the trouble shooting guide at the back which had they read it they wouldn’t be paying for a service call.

A bit late for that though if their house has just burnt down.

Re: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers

Current advice now being given is to physically unplug the appliance when not in use.
Good advice as many appliances no not have a proper on/off switch and are always on standby.

Re: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers

So the guy taking the dryer apart doesn’t think that the insulation material should be where it is and also shows us some lint on the heater cover.
I don’t think I would have put my face on national TV and made a statement like that as the stuff is obviously not flammable and is put there for a purpose.
Thing is with any condensing dryer the filters can never be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} and a small amount of very fine lint will always pass and stick to the ducting no matter how well the filters are cleaned and does not cause a fire hazard.
The fire hazard as we all know is accumulated lint in large amounts falling down onto the heater so why aren’t ITV telling us all this?

Oops. I didn’t view the download

The model looks like a very old Philips/Whirlpool ADG 684/1FW and there do not appear to be any manuals online and I threw out all of my Phillips stuff many years ago.

    Sorry.

It’s a Philips Whirlpool ADG 684. Almost an antique and many parts obsolete.
    Manual here to download.

    Re: Van insurance

When I had a van I used Direct line who were very good when it came to claims.
I now drive an estate car for work and use AA insurance who change the company used if they can find a better quote at renewal time.
I found a cheaper quote online this time around so I phoned them up and they beat it by £1.
Just had a no fault claim through them too which was dealt with very efficiently.
