Did all of that Bob but the point I was making was that the only action I was prepared to take was to cut the plug off.

Re: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers

I had a call this afternoon from a customer wanting a hotpoint dryer repair.
I asked the usual questions about the safety “modification” and she said it was reported to Whirlpool and they were coming out in JANUARY!

So I asked what the problem was and she said “It gets very hot and smells of burning”

I volunteered to call out foc and cut the plug off but she declined.

Glass hob tops are usually classed as fixed glass by insurance companies and should be covered as long as the householder says it is accidental damage and not an operational fault.

My correspondant in Rotterdam informs me that project fear has arrived in The Netherlands.
Apparently if we leave the EU they will each be 1000 euros a year worse off.
Well with our net contribution to the budget gone that makes sense.
The word on the street is Nexit and they could well follow if we leave.

I do 4/5 jobs a day maximum and take wednesdays off and no weekend work.
Most customers are seen within two days.
As I have virtually no overheads that gives me a good living without the stress.
I was on the treadmill for many years chasing and acheiving targets which in the end got me nowhere.
Your health is more important than someones broken dishwasher.

The only reason we are having this referendum is so Dodgy Dave can hold his party together.
He and many of his cronies have already booked their tickets for the EU gravy train and will do and say whatever is necessary to keep us in.
So yes it is propaganda and there will be lots more where that came from on both sides.

Badly installed appliances and especially integrated dishwashers are a fact of life in this business and it needs an experienced repairer/installer to identify and rectify the problem.
It is highly improbable that you have had two dishwashers straight out of the box and both to be faulty.

I deregistered from VAT several years ago and have never looked back.
Most of my customers are not VAT registered and the ones who are don’t object.
I would have to reduce my charges to remain competitive if I had to add on 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} VAT.

If your turnover exceeds £83K you must register for VAT.
I don’t think they want you if you are a very small business as it is not worth their while collecting the revenue.

It would appear that Whirlpool are not happy with the quality of the work being carried out on some of these dryers citing.
Adapting wrong panels to fit,not replacing back panel at all,not using P.t.f.e solution,no rivets or incorrectly placed rivets, missing screws, not removing lint from filters.
This is what was forecast would happen if inexperienced people were let loose with a toolbox and a van to rework these dryers.
This reinforces my own decision not to take on the work and even to turn away repair work on Hotpoint dryers.

I have seen similar with many different makes and it is all down to the user not following the instructions in the manual regarding cleaning filters.

    Any bells ringing here?

My mantra is “Its a dishwasher sir/madam not a waste disposal unit”
But it keeps us all in work so no complaints.
