hllo jim, the problem is more than likely the compressor on your fridge.
the buzzing you hear is going to be the compressor trying to start and then failing.
occasionally on these, the starting device on the compressor has been at fault, if it’s this then you’re lucky.
    hth,
    cheers.

    Re: Icing up problem

hello, i’m not familiar with this model, but your fault sounds like the water that is the product of the defrost cycle, is not draining away.

the drain hole will probably be blocked, causing ice to form in the drip tray and then during any subsequent defrost, water comes into the freezer cabinet and forms ice on the floor of the freezer.

it’s not serious and you should be able to pull off the back panel to inspect the blockage yourself.

if you don’t feel up to this, then use the repairs @ feature on this site.

    cheers.

hello pete, the most likely problem would not be the compressor, but the heating element that brings about the defrost, in the freezer section of your fridge.
of course in reality, it could be any one of a number of things, but talking in terms of probability, the defrost heater would be a good place to start.

    cheers.

the c6c would be the slimmer model bryan, this is the c7c, which takes the longer heaters, 2102.

well it would help with the parts identification, you’d have to give maytag uk a call for the bits.
that’s a us based site, but as you say, very handy.

    cheers.

Re: Maytag frost free double door GC20C7C3EB

this is a fairly common problem, the defrost heaters being the most likely cause.
they’re in series though, not parallel. the terminals are located at the top of the evaporator on a little piece of what looks like mica board.
the readings you give seem a little high, normally they go o/c, although i had one the other week where the readings were very high.
the part no for the heaters on this model is 61002102.
the defrost stat should read through when cold and be about 250k ohms when warm.
there is also a defrost timer located in the top of the fridge, behind the thermostat housing. these are normally reliable.
any one, or even any combination of the above cold be causing you problems.
    hth,
    cheers.

martin you have no experience of this equipment, yet state that it has little application in our trade.
i have used it and i can tell you that this is an excellent piece of equipment suitable for many applications, not just in our trade.

    amazing piece of kit this!
used one about 2-3 weeks ago, put it under an american fridge freezer and we were able to move it across the room with one finger.
also invaluable in the homes where there is a concern about the floor.
