just ring miele. they are quite good will happily give you part numbers etc and email breakdowns if you ask
they will know if the unit strips down or not. also most miele parts have the part number on them

yes or any appliances on that circuit if it was a circuit fault
you dont live on a strange electric supply do you like way out in the countryside or you own generator or anything like that ?

sound like a board fault. you could measure the voltage to see if its low or high but apart from that cant think of anything else. as a quick test you could disconnect it and power it up from another source such as a socket. since it does not need to be in use to fail you will know quickly.
as a long shot check its earthed ok. cant seeing it making a difference but its longshot time

the only way you can find out is to see if the part numbers match. the chances are there may be cosmetic changes (different glass, colour etc) but if the rear of the door with the hinges is the same it could well fit (but cant promise)

machine may have problems but you will have to cure the supressor first to find out. it is possible the original short damaged the supressor it is also possible it failed because it wanted to
