ParticipantRe: Aiwa TV/VHS 14″ G143 bypass code?
Yes threw out the 6666 number, service tech with a sense of humour.
Sorted out the problem by phoning an old mate from the broadcast industry who had come across this one.Turn the TV on then press the VOLUME down button whilst pressing the 7 button on the remote control.
This cleared the name and pin number, one very happy priest and useful to know just in case. Thanks jim for the help, spot on for Aiwa.

Thought that would make my mind up on repairs for the little critter.
Another one hits the deck. Suggest a Bosch or NEFF to customer?

If the control board needs replacing on these Hotpoint’s do you need to programme the DEA601 control module. Sorry chaps but do not normally repair Hotpoint dishwashers.

But anybody know if the actual rotor/shaft rotates in the plastic impeller for one full rotation when new before it actually drives the impeller round?

Thanks pup
Took timer module home and found cap C1 faulty, replaced it with a new 220 micro farad cap and stripped down the rubber button membrane.
Cleaned all moving parts with an ear bud with IPA and hey presto timer running again. One very happy customer with the same pcb module. If there was one out there it was priced at £133 ouch.
Changes back to mannual and clock reads correct time.

Thanks penguin45
Get your drift clearly.
Been around a long time and will not take unnecessary risks lifting heavy items. Been in the Broadcast industry for many years setting up and building studios but with plenty of corporate money to spend on very expensive lifting gear and equipment.
I was looking for an item that would be practical and not cost a fortune for the one man band. Yes I can sit in my chair with an open cheque book and blow a grand no problem on equipment or go out and purchase a nice new van with a tail lift but unfortunately I don’t have the money.
With so many service engineers having to get equipment into their vans I had hoped somebody could put me in the right direction for a practical lifting device that would raise a 90 kg weight to aprox 20inches high safely. The Draper jack was for looking at and deciding what weight would be practical for lifting in and out of the van then used for taking apart my 25 year old BMW motorbike
I have been looking at different items that are around to use and modify if possible for safe lifting. When servicing my van everything is chocked up plus axle stands and no way would I rely on a hydraulic jack.Back damage was mainly due to heavy ski-ing over the years not lifting washing machines, having worked in many dangerous environments I am only to aware of what can and does go wrong.

Having spent a day with ramps, hydraulic jack for car and many other ideas playing around with Clarke 3 in 1 barrow I have now decided to try with a Draper 150Kg Floor Transmission Jack that does go up to 570mm and folds down low enough for the barrow to fit on top. Thought of a platform trolley but they weigh in at over 45kg and are very bulky.
When Draper floor jack turns up and moded it to fit barrow safely will let you know how I get on. Having been in hospital with a hernia operation do not want to do the other side.

Thanks chaps for the information as this is the third time my back has gone and stopped me from working. Yes I have always heaved and slid the washer on a mat from the lower bumper but in old age the back is no longer willing.
As a biker have been looking at Machine Mart and Tool Station for a lifting device to get the washer up to the van height. Thought a platform scissor jack with mechanical screw thread or hydraulic pump up would get me out of trouble. So far all the ones I have seen will not rise up to 20 inches without a high start on the lift. Need a scissor jack that would start at around 5-6 inches and finish at 20 inches with a suitable stable platform to slide item off.
The Neptune would be the answer but taking up valuable space in a small van that does need the rear seat up once or twice a week.Keep your ideas up and anybody out there who can give me a company that sells a compact scissor jack at a realistic price or an engineering company that can modify one to work.

ParticipantRe: Wiring in a new oven.
Have got the drift well and truly chaps.
Will stick to my normal £40 for general repairs on domestic appliances and the odd pc repair. Obviously even feeling sorry for the lady in question and dropping down to £30 would not have kept her happy.
It will cost them that for a meal out on Saturday night in a pub without a connected cooker.
Did give her some other local numbers in my area and requested if she could find somebody please phone me back as I would love to know. Phone very quite.Just come back from a repair job on an Indesit washing machine and had a nice tingle having touched the drum.Ouch.
Got out my mains tester and surprise surprise it shows no earth on the socket under the work bench plus a double socket for the kettle and toaster on top.
Took multimeter out and buzzed across the earth pins and nothing.Very old thatched cottage with owner living there for 6years and just the good old fuse box on the wall with downstairs wiring through the 30amp fusewire.
Tried to take off very newish looking metal double sockets to have a look for the customer but they had been grouted in?
Informed customer who did not seem to be interested in such a dangerous situation as he was busy watching rugby on the TV, have to go back with a part and get him to sign a letter for me as I reckon the sparks will not be contacted. My relatives thatched farmhouse roof took 18 minutes to burn down the complete roof.
Mmm some people just want to be in the Darwin book of death 2010.
Thanks again for pricing.

Very useful information in keeping up to date on charges for various electrical jobs.
With the recession still running along it now gives me a better idea on charging more realistic prices for the customers so called 5 min jobs.Had an email from those awfully nice people from eSpares with a discount but what they do not say is that the parts always take a lot longer to get to your address than UK Whitegoods. Have ordered a few items and it has always been a full week before they turn up.

I was beginning to think she was hard done by having spent a few hundred pounds on a new cooker then expected it to be hard wired to her old wall face plate for charity.
Would have required some new twin and earth plus checking it out with my mega and of course burning off the coated oil on the heating elements.
Very polite to the lady and her mother but she was rather rude and told me she could do it herself?
Will wait for the bang down the road.Chris

First place I went to Rob, want to sell new items but no help with the old stuff.
Other engineers have had the same problem with Comark. Will draw out the circuit and have a bash at the calibration on the electronic thermometer.Cheers Rob
