    Thanks chaps.

Will have a look at hire prices but do like to have the tool when problems arise sitting in my workshop. Also have a sister in Germany who wants some work done on her house so not after a 4 Kg plus demolition tool.

    Thanks Kwatt

All I can say is I have used EU directive 1999/44/EC and turned to page 7 and had results for some of my customers over the last few years. Now this directive may be turned down by some companies but once I had sent the correct paperwork and being very polite it has worked some of the time. Customer has nothing to lose.

I thought that under the EEC regulations you automatically had a two year warranty hence now John Lewis have gone from a 1 year to a two year standard warranty.
Also I had a Olympus camera repaired after three years under the fit for purpose rule that does extend to 6 years having proved that the CCD were breaking down after only two years and hundreds of cameras had the same problem form Sony.

Re: Cardale V5 Rollertec Roll Up Garage Door

    Thanks Dave

Have downloaded installation manual to try and sort out what the cowboys have played with. Looks like something on the switch system as I found a yellow plastic lock bracket prised off the top where the roller switches are located. Damaged with a big screwdriver and lying on the garage floor.
Gets you real mad when the elderly lady has been charged for doing even more damage and I would not charge until up and running again. Have to work out what they have done now when it properly only needed the four lithium batteries to be changed on the door transmitter.

    Order placed 8th August 16.55
Standard grill element part number SKU 6224543.
Did not want to put down the order number here for security reasons.

    Re: Parts now coming slowly

Thanks Kwatt for such a prompt reply to my letter about the time taken for ordered goods to get to service engineers. Unfortunately I placed an order last week on the 8th August for a grill element and phoned up on Friday to find out what the problem was.
Had been told it will be with you on Monday 14th. Waited till 3.00pm with my van outside and nothing turned up via Hermes or Royal Mail.
Phoned up on Monday afternoon to find out that nothing was on its way and my Monday hanging around was just a waist of time as no courier was coming. Elderly lady promised a repair today and now have to take another ear bashing from her.
UK Whitegoods obviously have a problem in recent years because I could email David Conway and often they would turn up within 48hours on std Royal Mail service.
Have used some other companies to see what their turn around is and even thinking of eBay where at least there is feedback. Definitely problems going on at base. Not just summer holidays as in France. Had been a service manager for a electronics company so can sympathise with your problems but unfortunately it does not keep my customers at bay.

    Thanks Lawrence

Once they manage to dig the cooker out of the floor will go round and take the back off. Great service idea from the company to make what could have been a quick element change from the front. Probably why two other engineers had turned the job down?

    Re: Miele W1714 motor/brush problems

    Spot on Dave

Customer had problems with Miele not going onto spin mode and kept using the machine in spite of problems. One carbon brush worn completely away and as you had stated the armature was damaged on two segments.
Managed to skim the armature lightly on a lathe to save a new £440 motor for them. One brush had plenty of meat still on it. Only 1/4 worn down? Cannot believe Miele have the gall to charge around £60.00 for OEM brushes? Pity the EEC does not stop ridiculous overpricing of domestic spares to the customer.

    Re: Shark NV680UKT

Totally agree with Dave and others as I repair vacuum cleaners and have three small self employed cleaners that use Sebo every working day for their living. The only weak spot on them after years of hard use is the mains cable that comes out of the handle and breaks a wire, and after many hard years of use the slider switch wears out. Replace microswitch in handle and all running again.
Built robustly to last unlike Dyson plastic snap off broken lugs and blocked nozzles at the top if sucking up fine powders.

By the way did take off the clear plastic elbow on the tray and tried to blow and then suck through the black plastic corrugated pipe at the bottom.

Re: John Lewis Upright Freezer FZW1816

    Hi Captaincaveman1

The front of the evaporator looked ice free having taken off the front plastic grill but you could not suck or blow through the tube either way? Had used a hot hair dryer to warm things up at the top but could not thaw the whole freezer as it was loaded to the gunnels with meat.
Whereabouts would they have installed this one way valve in the drain? I don’t see why you possibly have it installed as gravity does the work from the top of the freezer right to the bottom where it connects to a clear plastic 90* connection into the tray on the compressor. No peas or sweet corn to get lodged up at the top?

    Many thanks

    Cheers Criscold.

Recirculation pump bearings rattling away like a football rattle.
Replaced pump and piece and quite restored to the elderly couple having had their floor tiles removed to get the washer out under the glued granite worktop.

    Re: Waterproof outdoor clock

    Interesting feedback chaps.

Yes I do have a waterproof watch which is now around 32 years old and still running ok. But when digging in the garden with dirt and a shovel I can just glance across the garden and see the time straight away or how many minutes I have before jumping into the van for a job. It is positioned so that when at the kitchen sink or utility room yet again a quick glance and hey presto time seen at the corner of my eye.

Also in the summer my wrist gets sweaty with a watch on. So I personally find a large clock 35 cm or more a great boon as I can see it covered in paint when painting inside or out up a ladder. Everybody to their own choices.
Would still like a proficient one with a name and company to order it from if at all possible. No sun dials please.

Will have a look at our local garden centre for one and see what happens.
Wont repeat what the Mrs said when I showed her a nice one at £424.00 with a five year guarantee!

    Cheers Criscold.

Was not sure if the recirculation actually runs when in a normal wash cycle.
Will try to get the PNC number off the customer before going there for a repair as her hubby will be chiselling off a couple of tiles having tiled the washer in nicely and the worktop is a solid lump of granite.
