    Re: which SEBO?

x4 more reliable than felix as felix has hose end issues (if you dont use crevice tool) and also switch issues if you regularly turn the brushroll on and off.

other than that the felix is lighter and more manouverable than x4 and has the hardfloor head. i still like the felix, just wish sebo road tested them more thouroughly before releasing it onto the public.

if its similar to the last teka i did it will be board s/w corruption. i offered to send it to emw but customer didnt think it washed well anyway so went for a new one instead (h/p :rolls:)

if you do send it off to emw (£29+vat if they can sort it – http://www.emwelec.co.uk) it would be worth asking them to note where the fault lied because detergent dispensers and solenoids can corrupt the pcb apparently (ask penguin) and its no good getting the board sorted and then having to do it again the month after…

£99 if purchased elsewhere, £15 disconnection & disposal

£69 if purchased from ourselves, inc disconnection & disposal & demo.

£20 discount if its a bosch/neff/siemens for a bosch/neff/siemens as fittings are generally universal and have rear foot adjustment from the front

+ extras if required for installation (hoses/taps/cable/plinth etc)

i also make sure neighbouring unit doors are level in order to make sure dw looks as good as the day the kitchen went in…

I also offer extra 3{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount for cash customers as we then dont get charged for any commission on the PDQ

Its charged at fixed rate as it should take between 45-90 mins per install. depending on whether old appliance is already disconnected and outside. variable rates i.e per hour dont seem to intstill trust in customers who think ull string it out to 2 1/4 hrs to get £180!!!

    and

NEVER GET A PLUMBER TO FIT INTEGRATED – THEY ARE WORSE THAN THE KITCHEN FITTERS!!!

    Re: customer wont pay

easy answer is to not vote labour in the forthcoming election… the hard question is who could do a better job… 😛

on a serious note tho, dyson clutches shouldnt take more than 15 mins – theyre a doddle. so even for £20 plus £20 clutch its still cheaper than dysons £70 call out…

only worht referring it to dyson if other bits need fixing tho – soleplates/brushrolls/wands/hoses/hepa filters/etc and even then u need at least 2 of those to be on their last legs as well to make a dyson call out more economical unless the motor is on way out. i always charge a £10+vat inspection/service fee, list the faults, give a quote and 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} time customer goes ahead with repair, in which case the £10 is redeemed against the labour… in most cases theyre willing to pay a smidge more than a dyson call out in order to avoid having to stay in for the dyson engineer!

Re: Belling E641 – Damaged Grill Element

if you try to bend it you do risk breaking hte insulation inside which could cause the element to short. but you have nothing really to lose if you know your limits. disconnect or isolate first obviously. part is cheap if you get the pattern version tho, expensive if you go to belling direct…

    here for cheaper option…

    Re: Built in cooker enquiry

amica have just released a built in 60×60 single with a rotiserie iirc from the pw trade show. might be misguided tho?!

built under d/o is a very british style of appliance. rotisserie is a very continental style of cooking. there will be very little if any, combining the 2.

you may be better off at looking at a pair of 60×60 single ovens side by side rather than a b/u d/o because as don says, the capacitys are tiny. top ovens on the aeg/elux/zan models tend to be taller because the controls are on the side. but if im honest aeg/elux/zan ovens are not good value for money imho

never had a problem with luxair hoods. (Y)

buy from an independant retailer tho, you will get a much better deal than by going direct to luxair!

Re: Any suggestions for replacing a washing machine waste tr

im imagining you have a horizontal waste with the “cut in” part located vertically. if this is the case, it shouldnt be too much work to put a standpipe in that will have increase flow. but a picture of your current setup would be really useful to make a proper and correct suggestion

    Re: customer wont pay

maybe thats what we all aspire to, high margin jobs with minimum of call outs. unfortunately its all too easy to fall into the trap of expecting to get that.

for instance my companys ex-owner (who started it) used to manage to sell a machine at a ridiculous mark-up because his customer base was of the same generation as him, and often knew him personally because they would have grown up together, and therefore he could get away with fewer but higher margin sales. unfortunately to put it bluntly those customers are now passing away with alarming regularity. to continue that cycle would be suicidal, with the increase of online ordering of new goods, and currys and comets deviation into nationwide repairs along with manufacturer supported contractors trying to stifle the independant repairer out there.

so its great when you can afford to do that by saying thats my price take it or leave it. but you do need to remember what its like for the rest of us who are fighting for trade against the big boys who are supported with manufacturer contracts and referalls, and the people “doing it on the side” like one guy around my way who undercuts us by over 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} offering call out repairs of £25 inc vat and labour – he picks and chooses his jobs and we know hes semi-retired and just doing what he can handle and fortunately for us he doesnt seem to be that great as we seem to be clearing up lots of his unfinished messes but the for every one he sucessfully completes is one less of the “simple” jobs we get i.e interlocks/pumps/door seals that tend to make up the loss of margin you get on the more time consuming repairs. i wouldnt mind if he took on more advanced jobs too rather than just collecting a cheque for identifying a problem and saying its not worth doing, and then the customer coming to us expecting a reduced rate call out because theyve already paid someone to identify the fault (rightly or wrongly) and therfore expecting it to be cheaper for us to do all the donkey work…

sorry im ranting now… and yes maybe we need toe evaluate our prices and charge more but then he is more likely to get the first call, so we cant win on that basis and if work liek he does but unfortunately myself and my colleagues have different morals where we just cant say no if we think somethings fixable…

    Re: customer wont pay

you can do that but you risk losing lots of “easy money” that way.

ive got belt and bearing jobs on vtds/is/tvrs down to 20-30 mins now and there so common i can sometimes find myself doing 9 or 10 in a week. with added margin from the best value bearing kits, i can make about £50 total margin on an £80 repair inc travel and part costs.

    thats almost £100 an hour.

rather than say worst case scenario is poss £xyz i cap the repair to 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} price of a replacement i can quote for them (delivered & positioned within 2 days). if after initial inspection i think it needs more cash than the 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} ill suggest the new machine route. in most cases tho ill do the repair. only thing that stops that happening is wear beyond front pads, noisey motor bearings, or bearing and belt and new stats…

if they go new machine route i take old machine away for free and keep all good condition motors, plastic front drum supports, elements, timer/fascia panels and interlocks. also worth keeping back carcass panels if drum shaft has not cut into it too far.

biggest deciding factor ive found between exxcels and classixx is the 50* wash.

exxcel does it classixx doesnt, other than that its really the aforementioned wash times and drum capacity.
