ParticipantRe: Uniform
I think I look ‘the nuts’ in my UKW polo shirt 😀
And in a customers house, it looks alot more professional than my ‘vacuums suck!’ t-shirt. I can’t wear it all the time tho, as it gives me jogger’s nipple 😕

ParticipantRe: Impossible 🙁
I’ve tryed the Masterpart cooker spares catalogue (excellent catalogue btw), and Homespare’s minicat, but no joy 🙁
I would just condem the bloody thing, but the customer is whinging, because we only replaced the fan element 2 week ago :bang:

ParticipantRe: ariston margherita or a servis washer
Both are pretty poor machines 🙁
If the Ariston is a ‘Margherita’ it might be a model which is over 10 years old, but is an ok machine, as long as it isn’t leaking from the pump.
But I’d go for the laundrette option, or down to the local river, and beat your clothes with a stick 😉

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Brushes and drum problem – sooty
If it’s going though brushes that quick, I’d think that the armature is goosed 👿 New brushes, (even genuine) need easy loads at first to ‘bed’ into the armature, and take the right shape.
It’s hard the tell if the armature was duff before the non-gen brushes, or maybe the non-gen brushes ‘duffed’ the armature. Or maybe the connection wasn’t tight enough?
It all sounds pretty terminal for your motor, I’m afraid 🙁 Of course, I’m only guessing :hide:

ParticipantRe: Ariston A1636 issues
The water could of dripped into the selector-switch, damaging that and the module, or the water could of dripped onto any live contact and blown up something?!?!?! 😕

aristoff2 wrote:How hard is it to swap a control module out?
It’s a complete ‘maire’ on an Ariston, IMHO 👿
Not the swap, the fact that sometimes another fault has caused the module to become faulty. I believe Ariston engineers use the ‘plug + pray’ technic. Plug a new module in, and it could be the start of your problems, rather than the end.
Sorry, to be so negative, but these machines are a royal pain in the backside (IMHO + IME), and if it was mine, a use some kind of trebuchet to launch it as far away as possible!

Not possible sorry 🙁
Chasa wrote:b) Could it be something other than bearings?
Maybe the motor bearing? Drum bearings are a more common problem. It starts with a small rumbling, and gradually gets louder, until it sounds like an aeroplane taking off!
Chasa wrote:c) On the assumption it is the bearings , should I replace or service anything else while the patient “is under”
Almost anything else is electrical, so no servicing is required. But I wouldn’t say that the bearing job is easy! Not at all! :hmm:
Click here for an engineer, or unplug the machine before you start any work.
