ParticipantRe: Whirlpool Top Loader – Identification Needed
Thank you all for the help – went back yesterday afternoon with a clutch mech, there was no oil contamination on the old one that I could see (Would have some trouble getting the oil in there as it is above the gearbox and facing the wrong way), Comparing the pads on the clutch bands there was a thickness difference between the two of about one third, changed the clutch and it now works.
I forgot to take the camera with me which would allow me to take better photos of it, I had a good look for a model number but I am either being very dense or it doesn’t have one on it.
Thank you all

Thats the bit – good to know that I can’t go far wrong then.
chezza wrote:Just for reference, the model and serial numbers are on a plate where the lid pivots
If only – the lid is clean as a whistle but there is no plate that I can find on it just a big label saying when to use what wash powder/programme.

Thank you will have to learn how to do that.

Excellent – that means that I can finally bring a up a list of parts with some chance of finding the right bit and from all the normal suppliers.
Thank you all

ParticipantRe: Zanussi DE6854 Fault codes
According to the manual there is a tacho on this motor – might be worth checking that there isn’t a loose connection to it and that the magnet isn’t loose.
The manual lists these as possible causes:-
a. Motor winding interrupted / short-circuited
b. Motor jammed (foreign bodies / pump unit)
d. Electrical connections broken / loose
e. Tachimetric sensor broken / short-circuited
f. Motor not reached 2000rpm within 5 secondsIt is worth noting that the same motor is used for both wash and drain purposes – there is a relay on the circuit board which controls which direction the motor spins in (may be sticking or have dodgy contacts), see if it always stops at about the same point in the cycle as this could point to relay issues when trying to reverse motor (motor connects to circuit board on connections C1 [Drain], C5 [Wash] and C13 [Common])
Some resistances to check for:-
C1 and C13 = 70 ohms (Drain Coil)
C5 and C13 = 50 ohms (Wash Coil)
E1 and E2 = 135 ohms (Tacho)There is also a service bulletin which is something to do with motor strengthening kit (part no 50228468000) – can’t say what it is supposed to cure as the bulletin is in Italian which I can’t read.
Hope that helps some

According to the service manual it is the error code for “Motor Stopped”

According to the troubleshooting manual that I have for it – it only shows the first digit of the error code to the end user, you have to go into the diagnostic mode to get both digits.
My guess is that it is doing its initial self check at start up and is coming up with 2 errors, the first is an E5x which relates to the main motor and its control triac and the second is an E2x which relates to the drain pump and its control triac. My guess would be that there is a fault with the triac sensing circuit on the board but am willing to be proved wrong.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi Washing M/c Error code? Identification Needed…
Sounds like it is showing a partial alarm – alarms starting with the number 2 on this machine relate to the drain pump and the triac controlling the drain pump, the number 5 could be a second alarm code which refers to either a main motor problem or main motor triac. I would take a guess that as this happens when the machine is first turned on that it may be a board fault although I don’t see that many zanussis so couldn’t say for sure.
If you can post an e-mail address then I can send you the service manual etc.

Thank you Bob – looks like I will be ordering a new heater then as the customer was shocked at the size of the lump of ice that I removed this morning.

Thank you Bob – all received. 😀
Quick question for anyone who has done the mod – Am I right in thinking that the new heater extends lower than the old one or is that just the model in the picture?
Thank you.

Can anyone send me the service bulletin (and service manual if your feeling extra generous) for these machines please – just been to see one today where there was a couple of inches of ice hanging from the evaporator – thermistors, thermal fuses and defrost heater all meter as ok.
If not can anyone shed some light on exactly which bit has gone as I am reluctant to get a board if it isn’t that which is causing the fault.
Thank you

ParticipantRe: do you advertise in your local paper?
I have an advert in our local weekly free paper – costs me £32.50 per month for a couple of pure lineage ads per week but it brings in about 4 jobs per week so it is worth doing for me.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi ZSF6066 won’t fill in consumer mode.
I am certain – I had had to leave it to the next day after fitting the motor to go back to it. Between my visits the customer had tried the machine several times and I tried the machine as soon as I got there on the second day, I decided to start by having a close look at the board first so didn’t even have to tip the machine, I put the board back and tested it to find no change at which point I decided that as the rinse aid light was on and having the front of the door off I decided to fill the rinse aid compartment till the float lifted so as to give the machine optimum conditions, then tried it and to my shock found that it promptly worked.

That’s what myself and the customer thought – she has regularly run it for long periods without rinse aid and it hasn’t done that before and it was the only thing that I changed in between tries – had to test it 3 times to be sure. :conf:

Ok – I have now cracked it – it turns out that it was lack of rinse aid that was allowing it to start the cycle but never fill.

Should have mentioned that I have metered both pressure switches on and off of the machine and they appear to be working fine and that I have cancelled all error codes – will examine the board when I go back later today. I will also recheck all the bits that you have mentioned just to make absolutey sure.
Cheers for the thoughts guys – please keep them coming.
