Went to this one today, as stated pressing P allowed the indicator lights to progress through the various programmes but on closing the door nothing happened.
I tried pressing P quickly four times and neons 4+5 came on steady. That didn’t seem to match the tech info that Dave kindly sent me. However I closed the door and after a pause the pump ran then the machine filled. Then it appeared to be circulating but only in short pulses. Switched off and tried to empty, after pushing the buttons a few times I eventually got the third neon to light, closed the door and the machine drained. However it now has neons 4&5 flashing and I cannot cancel them, pressing P rapidly or leaving the machine off for a while makes no difference. A visual check revealed no water in base, safety stat not tripped. Due to the awful installation, ( I think the original householder did it himself and has used Araldite to fix the decor panel) I did not want to force the panel off to examine the dispenser in case I damaged it.
Any idea what 4&5 flashing mean, not listed in the info I have?
Also what are the two small slotted plugs near the top outer edge of the door on either side for, are they supposed to hold the panel on, do they turn or push?

Is it not possible to squeeze a TOC17 into these motors, it may not cure the fault but it would save spoiling a good motor.

ModeratorRe: wma 76 config details
You could try this, it is for a WMA63 but it has the same module.
1. Disconnect the mains supply.
2. Fit new module.
3. Press and hold down the ‘WOOL’ programme button whilst reconnecting to the supply.
The display will show two digits.
4. Use the ‘PREWASH’ button to scroll through the available options for the left hand digit.
5. Use the ‘ONE ITEM’ button to scroll through the options for the right hand digit.
6. Select code for the model. Now this is where I am guessing a little. Code 0d is for the WMA63 which is a 1600 spin as is the WMA 76.
7.Press the ‘START’ button to complete selection. the screen will go blank.
8.Press the ‘START’ button again and ‘ON’ will be displayed.Machine is now ready for use.
HTH.

If that is the official line then the serial number does not matter. I am guessing that you bought it from a large, well known retailer. The staff in these places are only really interested in selling you a maintenance contract, anything else is way beyond them. You may pay a little more for the product but by using a local independant retailer you will almost certainly get far superior advice and service backup.

Thanks Chris, I will inform the local estate agent, this machine is in rented property so I will need an OK.

Hi Keith, as this is a fairly recent machine, and due to the fact that most manufacturers give the independant trade no help whatsoever, not many people here would be able to give you a definative answer. If it was possible to set a delay for the drying sequence only, I would think that this would be made clear in the user manual.
You have to bear in mind that what you have is Hotpoint with a large amount of Indesit bits in it, in particular the electronic controls and the dryer unit. The number of variations to Indesit machines as regards electronic controls is endless, they are also unfortunately extremely unreliable.
Although it may seem ridiculous, it is quite possible that some machines will have a function and some with the same model number do not.
If I do find any more info on this I will let you know.
What is the serial number of your machine?
Jim.

Which begs the question, are parrots really habitually sick, I cannot remember seeing one in such a state of distress. 🙂

The drum shaft kit should come with the later, square phosper bronze bush in place of the plastic one, but not the teardrop one.

ModeratorRe: Hotpoint WMA63 burning smell
If the belt was slipping it would be more likely to cause a burning (rubber) smell on wash not spin. These machines have a stretchy belt that under normal circumstances is very, very tight. If it is faulty you will find out soon enough, it would almost certainly fly off on spin if it was loose. Also if as you say the machine was overloaded then one of the items may have been rubbing against the door, drum front or seal, however you would see damage from this on the item if this was the case.
As Martin said, you may have caused the motor to get a little hotter than normal, just keep a close eye on the machine for the next few washes, if you get any more burning smells, get it checked out ASAP.

ModeratorRe: hotpoint 800 walking!
Oops, that model is right on the change over point and can have any one of the three different control systems. I should have asked you for the serial number as well, that includes a date code.
You don’t need to have a ‘heavy’ load to have an out of balance load, one large woollen sweater would weigh less than six or seven large towels but is far more likely to jump around, it is not so much the weight as the type of items in the load.
Also, when you look inside the door, does the drum appear to have dropped to one side, is the door seal all scrunched ( nice word ) up?iadom
