Finally sorted, they promised to ring back this morning but forgot. I rang later and finally got through, it does appear as though this guy is running this operation from home, very helpful and friendly. 🙂

Updated details for anyone who might need them in two years time 😉

    Re: Bompani BO693XA/N Spares

I have just been to this call, element is faulty. The customer has no documentation, other than the name Bompani on the front, there is no other identifying marks. No model name, no rating plate or any sign of it ever having one, its a built under unit and I have removed it completely but can find no ID anywhere. 😥

I have just rung that number above and it is connected to a fax machine, not easy to converse with one of them.

I’ll try and post a picture of the element, together with dimensions to see if anyone can suggest a suitable alternative.

The element has CONSONNI 2000W 230V on it.

EDIT. Dave, you may want to alter the information,

01902 742400 is the Fax number

Just tried the number listed above as Fax number and the phone was answered. Sounded like a private number, but the woman who answered daid that Graham was out but would ring me back later. ❓

Well he has e-mailed me and offered to update my woefully outdated web site. It has been on my ‘to do’ list for so long it has fallen off the radar. I enjoy all things PC/internet related but only have one pairs of hands 😥

Thanks for your reply. Points noted about my website I must update the bit about the soundproofing around the motor housing. i didn’t take into account about the ventilation.
No problem, in fact if you have an hour or so to spare you could knock up a website for me to rival that 😉 . My very basic web site is something I did many years ago when I stumbled across a version of MS Frontpage Express on an old PC running Win95. I would be more than willing to recompense you for your efforts. 🙂

Truly amazing, obsessed or what, 😯 . Wouldn’t you just love to be the engineer who had to call to his machine. 😥

    Re: Firmware for Washing Machines

First things first, ‘they (Hotpoint) are in fact, they, the Indesit Company, the problems with the various eeproms on Indesit machines is a real pain in the backside for most of us. The list of all the various eeproms for the whole of the Indesit/Hotpoint/Creda/Ariston range runs to several pages. The Hotpoint engineers are supplied with blank eeproms that they can load the required info onto, it should follow that any updates could also be done in the same way.

Unfortunately none of this information or the required hardware is available to the independant trade. 😥

I don’t know the exact figures but I hear that failure within the first few months due to the Indesit type electronics now used in the Hotpoint machines has greatly increased. 😥

With reference to your ‘extensive’ web site, I have one or two comments regarding your suggested improvements. To soundproof the motor is not a good idea, it needs to be allowed to cool itself and is not a source of major noise. You have to remember that if you had bought a machine to this specification from Hotpoint/Hoover or similar, more than 20 years ago it would have cost you well over £400 then. Fast forward to today and all your improvements will not be implemented for one reason only, cost. you can have all the features you desire today, but as we here are fond of saying, ‘ you only get what you pay for’ buy a higher priced Bosch or Siemens or better still a Miele and you will have a solid, quite, reliable machine.

The answer you have been given is very good constructive advice. This machine is very difficult to work on, access to the main circulation pump requires removal of the whole of the inner stainless steel cabinet, after removing many other parts, definately not a DIY job.

From someone who has ‘experience of this model’, gained I might add from over 37 years in the trade.

Also there are two different motors costing around £150.00

    Re: PC restore?

Are you using XP SP2, if not you should be, that would have warned you at boot up if your, AV, firewall and auto updates had been turned off, via its inbuilt Security Center ( I do hate American spelling) If you have backed up all your data then I would re format the disc and do a complete clean re install of Windows.

Out of interest, as you mention ‘System Restore’ that suggests Win XP, or possibly NT, did you not update Win XP to SP2?

It is worth noting that System Restore will not eradicate many off the recent virus infections. In fact to prevent re infection it is essential that you turn OFF System Restore when using most virus removal tools.

    Re: 904/2199/04 to /05 conversion

I don’t have a tech sheet but do have the old manuals, if you can give me the model number and date code I should be able to identify which wires go to which connections on the timer for that white block. A long time since I changed one of these, if I remember there are some other wiring mods to accomodate a new, small two spade terminal plug just behind the red & green plugs and an alteration to the economy switch wiring. You never no someone may have saved a tech sheet, although it should be included with the timer with all the connections.
