    Re: Hpt DWF40P Faulty

1+3 is no circulation pump, not had one fail on me yet. Motor is capacitor run (5 uF)
Reset will only work correctly after the fault has been cured.
With machine OFF, turn the selector knob to the RESET position and switch ON. after a few seconds all the lights should go out enabling a new programme to be selected.

    Re: Disposal of old parts

Vague is an understatement. If I buy an old wooden table or a chair from someone It would be my property and I would be allowed to take it home. If I buy a complete WMA outer drum from a little old lady for a £1 rather than leave it in her kitchen, it is my property but I am not allowed to take it home unless I have a license????

Thanks Chris, I did a Zanussi one with a similar fault a few weeks ago, managed to get it working with a clean out.

I have had one, and only one New Wave machine on which the pressure switch was causing the fill to fire on and off rapidly. It was a conventional timer model though.

The old Hotpoint, English Electric and GEC cookers were built like tanks, solid stove enamel. Long before fan ovens, but they would regularly last 25 years or more with very little trouble.

Machine was produced in November 1994, a good age for a washer dryer. 🙂

Had a phone call this morning, Tricity Bendix DH101
    Pnr. 911831021
    Ser No. 10960181

Complaint of buzzing noise and no fill, customer has checked water supply. Going tomorrow, is this machine an IWMS or a blue tube doofer?

It depends on how long it has been used with the bearings failing, difficult to say if you would get away with bearing and seal repair, or also need a drum support, worst case is that a new outer drum is required. Only an on the spot investigation would ascertain the extent of the damage.
With regard to the other machine, it may be worn brushes but blowing a 13 amp fuse is usually a sign of other possible damage.

Exact model numbers would help together with the serial number which incorporates a date code, if as I suspect these are Hotpoint produced machines. Serial number can normally be found inside the door trim or on the door hinge. Also on the back of earlier machines. If they are in fact Creda produced machines then they are getting a bit long in the tooth.

PS, online manuals are only ‘user’ manuals, they are not technical or service manuals.

Surely you are mistaken, I have just read issue 3, December 2005 of ‘In Service’ 😉 😆

I quote from the Service Director, Franco Secchi, ” We have endeavoured to change our organisation in order to better support the strategy of Indesit Company in the UK. However it has been a year in which we have markedly improved our level of service by focusing our attentions on the consumer through our decisions and actions.”

A service call 10 to 12 days later is not what I would call ‘markedly improved’. 😥

    Re: Animal damage

Several mouse damaged dishwashers, funny why on the Hotpoint/Bosch model they always chew in the exact same place on the sump hose. Had a few ‘fried mice’ on washer timers and tumble dryer heaters. Once had a drain outlet in the wall blocked by a kamikaze bird. I had a Hotpoint top loader that had a large cranefly, AKA a ‘Daddy Long Legs’ that had perished behind the plastic facia that the indicator needle passes along, left it there as it was to much hassle to remove it. Also had a Hotpoint top loader with a Crouzet timer that was damaged by an earwig, it had got between the timer contacts and burnt them, and itself to a frazzle. A few door seals and door handles chewed by dogs. 🙂

    Re: Hotpoint wm72p drumfront modification

Not the easiest to refit, the inner lip has to fold inside the drum front, whilst the outer edge goes around the front of the drum front, best done with the front panel removed, after unplugging of course. I find this one easier if you start at the bottom by lining up the drain hole , make sure the drum can revolve freely after fitting, if you don’t seat the inner lip correctly it will foul the inner drum.

Chances are, if you still get the parts it will still be going long after that plastic heap at the side of it has expired.
