I left Hotpoint almost 27 years ago, another Hotpoint engineer left 18 months to 2 years later. He lives in the Dukinfield area and for a while I was travelling to calls towards Stockport and he was passing me going to calls the other side of Rochdale. for many years now we have passed these calls to each other, also if either of us is on holiday we attempt to provide a bit of ad hoc cover.

They may have leaked after several years, modern pumps are noisy within 12 to 18 months, and fail at an alarming rate. This afternoon I went to a Hotpoint 18730 around 25 years old, unfortunately the backplate had gone but the original pump which was manufactured by Hotpoint themselves is still perfect.

I would say much worse, the failure rate is three or four times that of a ‘decent quality’ shaded pole motor. π₯

A one minute, scar free job, if you know what you are doing. π
A strong possibilty that the fault will re occur if a loose wire or poor brush contact did cause the fault.

I am a spritely 58 year old π , If I was to drive from one end of the main area I do to the other it would be around 25 miles, average distance between calls, ( due to using ‘ The Knowledge) π is around 3 to 4 miles.

As I expected, its not an economical repair. I’ve seen a Hotpoint FDW60P in my local Costco for Β£200 which does a half load (keeps Mrs MJ happy) so I’ll get the money back on this Indesit and buy a new machine.

Hotpoint FDW60P is also an Indesit. π₯iadom

Same control module (100bit) as DWF40 etc)
12hr/drying is light number 4 = Not heating. Its one of the horrible Indesit produced machines. Heater very prone to failure. Not to expensive and fairly easy to fit, best to order the replacement jubilee clips if you are going to change heater.
If required heater is C00074000, around Β£30 ex vat list price, clips are 9900250, you need two but you may be able to source a cheaper alternative, normal size jubilee clips are too thick.iadom

Not quite as bad as M25 round here Bryan, but the traffic can be a real pain around this area, one of the reasons I start early. The only real problems I have with that is finding a parking space in this 2/3 car family age, with one car on the drive, one on the pavement etc, and seeing the numbers on the door in the dark. I sometimes feel like a burglar, sneaking down the path with my torch to make sure I am at the correct address, at least on those that bother to have a number on the door. π₯ π

Perhaps you should enquire about hours first. I regularly do 10 calls each day, but start before 7.30 every morning, even so I am a late starter compared to R600a π

BTW, I have read something about warranty repairs for Hotpoint products till 5 years age, but I haven’t got any letter of guarantee. Can you tell me more?
Thanks for your help.
All hotpoint machines are covered for parts for five years, you have a date code on your machine which is part of the serial number on the door near the hinge, the first two numbers are the date code. Remember that if you make it obvious that you have been tampering with the machine your warranty will be invalidated. however, reading your first post again the warranty may only apply to the original owner.
There should be no need to remove the motor to check, refitting can be very difficult if you do not know what you are doing with the belt πiadom

What make/model is your machine?

As a former Hotpoint engineer circa 1968/80 I would add
All 1600 electronics, Timer, module & PMC. ( Power Micro Circuit)
Top loaders fitted with the first generation two pole motors, pathetic clutch from twin tub and elastic drive belt, no spin and endless pump leaks.
Original 1850 that had three door micro switches, supposed to use ‘dynamic braking’ reversing the current using the heater as a large resistor to bring the motor to a sudden screeching halt if you opened the door at full spin speed. Most of the time it just blew the electronics when you closed the door. π₯
9500 series door hinges.

To give you some idea of the damage you are doing to your machine by only doing low temperature washes, this is a drum support I have recently removed from a 3 year old Hotpoint machine, this customer used liquids and only washed at low temperatures. No prizes for guessing the before and after. π
With correct dosage, a good quality detergent, regular hot washes, ( try washing a load of whites or something similar once a week on a 60Β° wash), together with the maintenance wash already suggested, I have seen 15 year old drum supports look almost as clean as the one on the left.

ModeratorRe: Hotpoint BFV62
Are you getting any error code warnings, lights flashing etc, this machine has the 100 bit control module that should generate error codes.
