    Re: broken drum shafts

I had one today, the customer that asked me to look at the waste disposal after I had repaired the washer a couple of weeks ago, noticed the new box of Ariel in the corner 😉 . It didn’t stop me charging her the full price for the job. I haven’t got X Ray vision and I did tell her that oversoaping and warm washes would damage the drum support when I fitted the door seal the week before.

Brilliant Martin, She lives nearby and I call round several times a week, (big pat on back for being such a good boy ).

You can send them to me, do you have my address? Let me know how much I owe, can always get you a pint or two at the next meeting if I can take my eyes of the belly dancer. 😉

jag-12 wrote:Think this is also down to the really poor quality of the alloy used.Just look at the old Hotpoint 1800 series same spider as 95 and wm but when did you ever see them rotted out.
Same applies to Hoover, old spiders and backplates never rotted, but ecologic range grow holes within years.

I think it has as much to do with the modern detergents and the over emphasis on economy or cool washing. Your Gran used to boil everything 🙂 . How many times do you go to a machine and find the eco button selected, where the customer leaves it like that all the time. I have seen many Hotpoint 1800’s with rotted backplates, but there is far more alloy in these machines for the detergent to attack, so it will take a little longer. Watch the energy adverts on the TV with that wally in the Indian outfit that has shrunk advising everyone to turn the 60° wash down to 40° 😥 Still we are in the business of repairing them so, swings & roundabouts.

Have emailed it you Alex plus Iadom & RS…..I cannot figure though why only Dave and I can see what after all is only an animated GIF file 😕
The copy I have had for a while works fine on my PC, but only if I open it from the original e mail that it was sent with.
It could be that firewall settings are stopping the gif from running, I use Zone Alarm Pro and the link that Dave posted only works if I allow animations for that site in ZA Pro.

Its for my mum, she will not let me get her old machine plumbed in and the taps on the sink are quite old, at the moment it has the black rubber adapters that are secured by tightening a clamp with a thumbwheel, she has not got the strength to tighten the cold one properly and it keeps blowing off. If I could get one with a chain for the cold water then that would suffice for now. I think I will just have to get my mate Terry the Plumber to come and do the deed and take the consequences. 🙂

If anyone gets a chance, try and get your local Hotpoint engineer to let you have a look at the 2nd edition of ‘In Service’, the in house magazine for the Indesit Company service division, it is both funny and also rather sad, ( I say this as an ex Hotpoint engineer)

    This bit caught my eye.

Re, the EAT Team, no not an invitation to stuff your face but the Exchange Authorisation Team……. I quote.

‘At the turn of the year it became clear that leaving the ability to exchange our appliances with a wide field of personnel meant that last year our replacements virtually tripled to previous years’.

So there you have it, nothing to do with the ‘quality’ of the machines, it is all the fault of the staff. 😥

Re: Hotpoint DWF 50 error message

Ken, Eco & Fast indicate a time out on the drain cycle, can be caused by many things, pump blockages, connections, control module etc. The DWF50 in common with most dishwashers should only be plumbed in to a cold fill supply, definately not the hot.

ps how does the condenser work, is it like a ‘fridge with a pump and freon type of gas/liquid (but more environmentally friendly)?
    😀
    cheers, ahab
If the float chamber is badly blocked then it is quite a difficult job to access and clean.
The operation is quite simple. The machine has two fans, one sucking in cold air, the other blowing hot moist air around the machine.. The internal ducts route the cold air and the warm moist air over opposite sides of the heat exchanger/condensor, the resultant condensation drains backwards into the water container.

Just so that you can award yourselves a medal, small nail & 1p coin in pump. The bloke had taken out perfectly good 1/3rd worn brushes and taken them to a local shop, they told him there was nothing wrong with them but he insisted on buying some, they sold him the naff non gen ones and advised him to pinch up the holders. Fortunately they had saved the old gen brushes because I only had to waggle the brush terminal for it to drop out. You get some measure of the problems we face trying to educate the public though. She has gone through 3 machines in ten years, always paid for a service contract until her latest ‘partner’ ( the brush changer) said “buy a Bosch and don’t bother with the contract” , very good advice in my book. She said to me before I had even had a look that she was thinking of throwing it out and buying a new £200 tin can with a contract. 😥

The trick is seperating the can from the shaft my old man knows a trick from yesteryear basically put the can under load and pour boiling water in and hey presto it pops out i will ask him tommorow for the finer details

That sounds like the old Hotpoint 1420 twin tub, I had a special tool made, a heavy chisel welded to a 2 foot iron rod, pour in the boiling water, wedge any spanner of the correct size under the lips of the spin can and place the rod down onto the motor shaft, lift the machine up with the spanner and clout the special rod with lump hammer.
