Allowing for the fact that it is over 25 years since I was a Hotpoint FSM ( before we became FSE’s) I was quite pleased that I sussed this out on my third attempt. I know of at least two other machines that have been scrapped, when a heater would have cured the problem, neither customer will buy a Hotpoint again, such shortsighted reluctance to inform the private trade is only going to cost Hotperloni dear in the long run. 😥

the most common cause of that is incorrect fill hose connection, or a dozy plumber. Check the hoses are on the correct valves and that hot water is actually coming out of the ‘hot’ fill hose and cold from the ‘cold’ fill hose.
I had one plumbed into a gas pipe once, but getting the hot & cold reversed is far more common.

heater – no I only checked continuity – but I’m not sure why earth leakage would cause the machine to misbehave ? – wouldn’t it just blow a fuse and/or refuse to work at all ?
I have had three similar E15 faults that initially drove me to distraction. I changed pumps, pressure switches, modules, removed the pump flap valve etc. however on the third one the customer had RCD circuit breakers installed. It was when she mentioned that sometimes she got E15 and on other occasions the breaker tripped that I went though the machine with a fine tooth comb. Even though the heater looked perfect, it was leaking a very small amount of residual current, not enough to blow a 13amp fuse but sufficient to trip an RCD, or in this machines case give this exact E15 error message. It is worth checking ( with plug removed ). A heater will cost you around £25, you have time before Hotpoint arrive. This only refers to your original fault, you may have disturbed something that is causing the fill problems.Since I first found this fault I have had one other with a heater damaged by a failed drum support allowing the drum to rub on the heater, customers initial complaint. “It keeps coming up E15”
NB. Should the heater be the cause of the fault, and if you decide to attempt to replace it ( old heater difficult to remove) examine the displaced heater carefully for any sign that the inner drum has been catching the heater.

I would strongly advise against trying “that expensive looking module” there are in fact three modules in this machine, a display module, control module and a power module. The latter two are both very expensive.
Do remember that you have a five year parts g/tee and you will only 😉 have to pay Hotpoint just under £90 😥 regardless of the fault. Either of these modules is not far short of that cost. If you do call out Hotpoint, make sure that your ‘handywork’ is not obvious, they would be within their rights to refuse to honour the parts g/tee if it was clear that you have been having a go.Did you just check the heater for resistance or did you check for any insulation problems with the heater.

Some of the Bosch equipment is actually produced in Spain & Poland. The Bosch experts on here will be able to give you more details. If the label says Made In Germany, buy it. If it says Made in the EU, tread carefully.
Unless you are stuck for space, separate appliances are a much better investment.iadom

BBQ
It’s the only type of cooking a real man will do. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:
Routine….
1) The woman buys the food.
2) The woman makes the salad, vegetables, and dessert.
3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill — beer in hand.
Here comes the important part …..
4) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.
More routine….
5) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
6) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is burning. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he deals with the situation.
Important again .
7) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.
More routine…..
8 ) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table.
9) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.
And importantly ….
10) EVERYONE PRAISES THE MAN AND THANKS HIM FOR HIS COOKING EFFORTS.
11) THE MAN ASKS THE WOMAN HOW SHE ENJOYED “HER NIGHT OFF.” AND, UPON SEEING HER ANNOYED REACTION, CONCLUDES THAT THERE’S JUST NO PLEASING SOMEiadom

Service Programmme 4- Thermistor Test.
To select Service programmes, press the programme select button and the half load buttons simultaneously then switch on.
The display will scroll through the various test programme numbers. Press start when the required number (4) is displayed. This fills the machine and heats the water to 66°C. The measured water temp is displayed allowing the thermistor and temp measurements to be checked.
STEP………….DISPLAY………… ACTION
1-5 …………..water temp……….Fill 3 times
6……………………………………..Circulate and heat to 66°
7……………………………………..Circulate for 24 sec.
8……………………………………..Circulate and drain for 16 sec.
9……………………………………..End.If the temp display does not rise on the display then the thermistor could be faulty or the heater is not working, but as Dave said, it could have damaged the PCB.
If you want the other test programmes let me know, the only others that are useful for servicing are the No: 2 Wash test & the No:3 Dry test. The dry test may be helpful as it should energise the heater for 16 seconds without water.

The first thing to do when the knob starts to rotate is to count the number of flashes from the indicator neon, it should flash a set number of times depending on the area of the fault, report back with that, it is a fault code that may give us a clue as to your problems.

You have to be very careful how you handle the green spot stat. Its base should be convex, if it is depressed either by tripping due to overheating or careless handling it will be O/C and it is then useless. It would be very unlikely to have tripped in such a short space of time so I would suspect that you have accidentally pressed in the base of the green spot stat. If you press the other stat it will spring back out. This is the temp controller. The green spot is the safety cut out and will not reset.
NB. Do not run it with the other stat, you have no overheat protection if you do.

Motor bracket could be 169390, I have had several of these snapping off recently. If you look at WD71 on Partfinder then select details for the 169390 bracket (list No:130), it will give you a list of alternative drum brackets including 168182. When I try this on WM71 I sometimes get the list and sometimes just the details.???? Seems to work OK on the washer/dryer though.

The brain of George W Bush
Hearing so many people speaking about his intelligence level, George Bush decided to get his brain checked. The physician diagnosis was as follows: – Mr. President, you have two brains, the left and the right, like all normal people. But the problem is that in your left brain there is nothing right and in your right brain there is nothing left.

About two weeks into my training I had a hotpoint 95 bearing job to do.
No big deal you might think.
This machine was on a landing….on a shelf four feet up in the air, with about three inches at the sides and a foot at the back.
I never cease to be amazed at the places people stick their appliances. I had one Hotpoint Washer/Dryer that was in a tiny loft next to the hot water system header tank, you could not stand up or turn the machine round. Still don’t know how they got it up there. Also another nightmare was a customer with English Electric washer & dryer (very big, heavy machines ) stacked and situated in an upstairs airing cupboard in a passageway. There was a 6 inch step into the cupboard and a one inch gap on either side. I refused to attempt to get the machine out and she had to pay Hotpoint a double call out fee for two engineers to lift them out.iadom

Know what you mean, I had a vietnamese refugee trying to give me her address. It sounded like one word, “meelsillblidge” turned out it was Mills Hill Bridge. Also remember many years ago at Hotpoint we had an Irish girl in the office. She had taken a call and read it out to me as she had written it down ( you would have thought she would have checked it back with the customer), as Gorsenowlyew. It should have been Cross Knowl View. 😯 🙂iadom
ModeratorRe: candy combiwash ce124
What you should say is that it will not empty or spin, most machines will not go into spin if they cannot empty.
Is there a filter behind a small door or the kickstrip at the bottom on the front of your washer. If so the first thing to do is to make sure that is clear.
Try and lower the drain hose into a bowl, if the water does not flow out freely you will have a blockage somewhere. If you cannot hear the pump running, it may be jammed by a foreign body, could also be a faulty pump.
