I had a Hoover ( same machine) showing 08 error code only last week.
Not very old, brushes not even half worn. It had arced across the commutator and blown the main module.
New motor and pcb required. 🙁

Looks like you where definitely on the right track guys.
Customer ( long time friend ) has just phoned to say his teenage daughter had ‘fixed’ it. 😀Apparently she didn’t know it was broken, popped home from uni and stuck some washing on. As teenagers are prone to doing she slammed the dryer door closed and it worked.
I have advised on the WD40 trick and if it fails again will know what to look out for.

Thanks for that Paul, will ask them to check the countdown. l’m pretty certain that the specials knob had no effect even when the right hand knob was set to 12.00 o’clock.

All cables appeared sound, are there any error codes or test routines for this model?

If you mean the one above the heater then that is fine, checked and tested.
Re: washing machine probs
Communications error, the two circuit boards are not talking to one another.
Can be loose or broken connections between the boards or if you are really unlucky one of the boards.
First thing is to squeeze the flimsy connectors between the boards to try and make better contact.Re: CDE129ALL Module /Wiring Mod/Smartcard
Sadly I do not have access to Servicenet either. 🙁
And the information in Partfinder is worse than useless.
