Re: An offer you can’t refuse?

I joined Indesit just over 2 years ago. Primarily because they were after gas engineers and I was newly qualified but lacked experience. I had worked for Hoover 3 years previously so had the skills on white goods.
Money wise, I’ve not earned as much, not even when in the RAF for 15 years. Work wise plenty of variation everyday in types of appliances. Morale wise I’m a happy bunny – I dont get much hassle, have a good boss and plenty of overtime on a Saturday if i want it.
I won’t be walking with my feet or seeing if the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. It’s down to individuals to make their jobs a good and enjoyable one. Ok there are times when things don’t go our way (like now) and the thought of industrial action does not thrill me at all.
10 years ago when I joined Hoover there was an engineer who was not happy and whinged for England about the job. I bumped into him a few weeks ago still whinging and still working for Hoover or should I say Candy.

Maybe its my work ethos from 15 years in RAF. I get on with things and don’t let things get in my way. I’m not naive, I just make the best of what I have.

I know we are as engineers undervalued sometimes more by customers than management. I feel in control of working hours, sit by the sea most days for lunch and take in lots of fresh air. No one can take not even management can take that away unless they change my area i cover.
Oops, just sat on my rose tinted glasses. Oh well, back to Specsavers.

johnny i know its not about the money now. but personal circumstances for me make it so i will not go on strike if it comes to it. Any industrial action is a negative action and will do more harm than good. i hear engineers winge on at team meeetings and to be honest it pisses me off. maybe its me due to my background from being in the RAF as an engineer and the attitude i have to work.
What was the result of first ballot for pay rise? 68 percent of engineers voted and of that 68{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}, 62{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} turned down offer? Does that mean the other 32{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} who could not be bothered to reply were happy with what’s on offer?
we’ll just have to wait and see i suppose

Lets see strike action over £400 a year pay rise? This is one engineer who will not be going on strike if it comes to it and yes im a member of the union!

Oh and for the record you can get the chips pre-programmed so no need for laptop for these machines so not a case of restrictive trrading!

    Oh ye of little faith!
As An indesit engineer it has been my unfortunate job to put right where independent engineers have gone wrong on these machines.
Ie putting new power module on and and then fitting a blank eeprom chip and wonder why they done work.
Changing motors when all was needed is a new set of brushes and the commutator cleaned.
Still you get what you pay for! Out of curiosity what does an independent engineer charge for a new board to one of these machine?

Re: How do you solder carbons to Bosch motor?

looking at the brushes and motor why dont you order some 1604462 brushes. Hotpoint use that motor on their early wma machines and its a 10 minute job to change brushes without taking mtor off machine

Its a communication fault between the power board and display board. If you’re goung to investigate power off and unplug machine.

    Re: tight customers

When i worked for hoover I was in a rather rough area of Hull. Customer complained machine would not empty. Noticed there was a cheque already written out but just missing who to make it out to.
I emptied the pump of various objects you know nails, screws, coins etc.
tested machine and all worked fine. Told bloke it was fixed and how much it was. He refused to pay saying it hadnt taken me long to fix. After pointing out the stuff I removed should not be in there in the 1st place he stil refused. Fair enough says me and put the objects back into the machine. he thought they were just in the drum and looked surprised when he could not find them. I pointed out I had put them back where they came from and pointed to the gap between between inner and outer drum and walked out.

im sure there are engineers who are self employed who are just as incompetent at repairs as there are good ones. most of calls i go to are booked within a couple of days of me going to appliance.

I agree there are some very poor sales staff out there in the usual stores found on high street and out of town sites. the machine i went to today was simply syphoning but had had it replaced twice

    Re: Hotpoint launch Aqualtis

Certainly not. I know that the influence of italians seems to take over but that was the same when candy took over hoover. As one of indesits engineers i dont see too many repeat faults with same appliances and very rarely. I went to an aqualitis today in fact. Customer bought it from currys 2 weeks ago and has had it exchanged twice now for the same fault. Wash takes too long. Want to hazard a guess at what was the problem?
