    Hi Phidom,

We can get them from spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and if they’re in stock with Samsung they’re not too bad really, a few days wait. If they’re not in stock, how long’s a piece of string? 😕

    Hi,

The only place you’ll get one is from Candy/Hoover, there should be a link for details in teh Weblinks section in the main navigation panel.

    <<<< Over there. 😉

Quite right Del and, if any of the Eastern manufacturers come in with the right deal for us on a half decent appliance then they’ll get the support for it. So far the problem has been that many of those bringing in Chinese products have soaked up the extra margins and we get zip out the deal, bar a bit more hassles. I wouldn’t mind that if the effort was renumerated but it’s not as the EU manufacturers are trying to maximise profits and we’re a part of that equation whether we like it, agree with it, or not.

I could go on and on about it but suffice to say that, if there’s no value in repairs and there’s no repairers or not enough of them left what are they all going to do, swap out any failures? I don’t think so, not at the cost to deliver, install and dispose which will be even more accute a problem as soon as WEEE bites.

We already have a skill shortage, that’s NOW, where will it be in five years if nothing is done?

If it’s wanted I see no reason why we can’t.

Yep I’d seen it but I was more interested in the corporate pages than the products as they are in the cheap and cheerful bracket to me. I realise that they may be cheap and a cheap easy fix as well, but how many customers wil pay ~£80 to have a fan element replaced on a ~£120 oven? I actually had a few of these through DAG and was surprised that I was replacing a fan element for about £60 or so which is about half the cost of a new one.

I don’t have a problem with Teba persay, I do however have a problem with cheap appliances as that does us no good at all. It does not encourage the customer to have a repair, breeding a throw-away mentality with appliances. It is environmentally a very unsound and damaging path. And it simpy devalues the entire industry in the eyes of the public.

The problem is that once it is devalued it is very hard to climb back up again, just look at small appliances. Once there was a roaring trade to be had in replacing kettle and toaster elements, now at the first sign of trouble the appliance is tossed and replaced with consumers regarding them as throw away items. There has been some redress with the instigation of high value items from Dualit, Siemens and in coffee makers from Gaggia, Jura and the likes but you’d hardly class them as mass-market.

The danger for us is that, should the downward drive on pricing continue, we’re all pretty much out of a job and appliances will become throw away as there’s nobody about to repair them. It is very easy to justify that point of view and to see that some of the effects are already taking place, any one of us has experienced the “oh, I’ll just get a new one” type comments from customers, even on supposedly higher value items.

IMO manufacturers are steering towards a shorter lifespan in appliances as that increases sales, one of the few ways that they can increase sales in a stagnant marketplace other than buying up more brands (ala Merloni/Indesit) or by stealing business from competitors, also known as a price war as there’s little or no inovation in the industry and therefore no competition in that area.

So in the longer term, whilst I agree that some of the low cost appliances are good value and a nice easy fix for us they could well be our Nemesis as well.

From 1987 there’s a strong possibility that it will indeed be obsolete but if you drop a line with that info to Jess on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk she should be able to answer it on Monday.

And there are no generic oven seals that I know of due to variances in heights, thickness etc.

    Edmat,

There’s various options but what I think you’re describing is a built under oven which can either go to the floor with a recess for a kickpanel there or a built in single oven. But freestanding is available as well.

    Hi,

We’d need a model number and possibly the serial number off the machine as well to track that down for you.

Where does it stop, which is what I assume you mean?

There’s no hard and fast rules and we may be able to indicate the problem but not give you an exact cost to repair.

    Re: terim spare parts

    Hiya,

We’d need the model number for sure to get that and, knowing the way cosmetic spares go (especially stainless), it probably won’t be the cheapest of items I’m afraid.
