Can we make it or should we make it compulsory, I don’t know, which is why I think we should discuss it.

Big business, perhaps – would we be better served encouraging sponsorship from them rather than expensive membership?Chris. That’s where I am at at the mo with this ,the big players will see this as a return on investment ,And What are they getting for their investment – exposure to the full membership to sell/advertise there skills /goods
Now I think that is worth money to them ,the challenge to us is to decide how much money ,one thing is for sure we mustn’t undersell ourselves ,and mustn’t fall into the trap of doing something just because it has always been done that way ,we are more than that and are proving it by the conversations that we are having here .
And thinking outside the box there are more than just spares suppliers out there ,what about insurance co’s that operate in our field,or very outside the box -the likes of Lokring,Danfoss,Ranco, etcLawrence

ParticipantRe: WTA Engineer Register
Why not run it like CORGI , if you need a Corgi registered eng put in your postcode and hey presto a choice of engineers .
There is also another way of using the system ,which is you turn up on the door show your ID card ,mrs smith rings the WTA quotes your member no and confirms who you are ,or goes on the website and does the same .
I will display my member no next to my company name ,however I like Chris wonder if we need to publish all names etc as an open list as I think they will be lifted ,and that list is a valuable commodity in this day of e-news letters ,mailshot’s etc .
Will post more later

ParticipantRe: WTA Engineer Register
I decided to sleep on this and respond this morning ,But the the usual UKW thing has happened 😆 Everyone has siad what I wanted to but in a far more eloquent manner !
but for what it’s worth
If we are a trade association we have to represent ALL of the trade ,we must be incusive to the whole industry not exclusive to just some ,Ok I hear the argument re member benefits ,but we have the ID Cards ,the ability to provr that you work to a COP (instant credibility in the eyes of the cust I think )
we can weight the repairs @ by giving the customer a choice of wether to use a WTA member by putting WTA member on the tag line on there entry.
Also whether we like it or not the reality is that some of the changes we endeavour to bring about will benefit non members of the WTA but this this then creates a credibilty for the WTA as they are seen to be changing things and people will want to be on board.
I think the COP is a major asset in our credibility bank as it has been “policing” repairs @ for 2 years or so already & is shown as an effective policing system, this should sift out the cowboys.
I think that will do for the mo
the school run beckons .

ParticipantRe: WTA Engineer Register
I take your point ,I suppose the only saving grace is that WTA members & repairs @ repairers both abide by the same COP.
But I too would prefer WTA members to get the workLawrence

washdoctor wrote:Just a quick question…. on the WTA website, when a customer wants to find an Engineer, they are directed to repairs@.
Wouldn’t it be better to have our own, WTA engineer search facility that would only bring up WTA member details? For me, there are two main reasons for this:1: We will have paid up members, having to share work oppotunities with people registered on repairs@ for free, that have never contributed to this industry?
2: That facility on the WTA site may entice some non-members or borderline people to join, and inturn up our membership numbers?
Just a thought?
Adrian 🙂
Hmm.. I am sure this came up at Sibton but we didn’t conclude anything did we ?
One thing I am certain of as we are talking membership lists is that we don’t publish members details in a form that anyone can “Lift “of the site and use to there own ends .
They need to ask and then we can decide if they are adhering to the COP etc and how much they should pay for that resource.
In my opinion anyway

ParticipantRe: Whitegoods Trade Association
Neil & Dave were there but not in an official capacity to my knowledge ,
the concept of the WTA was discussed and the principle was agreed .
We then agreed to have a meeting throughout the evening with regard to where we go and how we get there ,this is what the minutes relate to .
Any questions with regard to the meeting just ask .
