I had a thought today ,is there any merit in investigating Diaries ,nothing fancy just an embossed WTA logo on an A5 diary, and maybe some artwork for the ISE range on the inside ,or part way through.
Raises the profile for very little work on our part .
now whether we would sell them ,or follow the same principle as the ID cards -1st one free etc I don’t know.
And to recoup the costs maybe a supplier would like to sponsor the cost and have there details written large inside ?

I have two over the last month, one was a Zannussi no drain ,I arrived ran the m/c could hear that the pump was obstructed he insisted that I had a pump on board as that is what it was ,I took the filter out to find a bra wire jamming the pmp .
I then hooked it out with a pair of long nose pliers and charged him a callout charge .
He rang back the next day to say how grateful he was that I hadn’t fitted the pmp that he insisted I had to have before calling ,and how impressed he was that I knew what it was straight away ,,and he had now reccomended me to all of his family.
the other was an ISE no spin ,when I arrived I discovered she had washed one cardigan and it had gone OOB ,I explained everything to her and left with a box of teabags 😯 Apparently she has loads of them and was so impressed by my pleasent manner that she had to give me something .

1st call today Smeg A42 range blows trip when clock set .
I knock on door
1st thing he does when answering is looks at his watch.
then he asks me do I have a clock with me as Smeg have told him it’s the clock ,And he’s not paying another callout charge if I can’t be @r$ed to hold a clock on my van.
followed by “why I am taking the back of and checking the fan oven element when he has already told me it’s the clock!”Cause he was an engineer once you know :rolls:
To which I replied it’s not likely to be the clock ,his response “well what else could it be then”
I don’t know what nmade me check it but the fan mtr was dead short to earth -result ,I then fitted a knew one during which time he strangely said nowt.

Tech info, we’re on it.
Warranties, we’re on it.
Publicity, we’re on it.
Government, we’ve been on that one for a while, but it’s slow painful work. 🙁
Legal cover, we already have access to some advice as seen previously. For legal services I’d suggest either a retainer with a good firm (I happen to know one given recent experiences but they ain’t cheap!) or some sort of insurance cover to negate costs. Just so happens I know a man that may be able to help us there as well.
Cheap vans, on it.
Loads of other stuff… also on it.
Any more? 😆
It’s amazing what you can do for a few quid a year but here’s the rub of it all…
It’s all possible IF we all try to play ball and support the stuff that we can do as much as we can. Volume can get us a long way.
K.
you took the words right out of my mouth 😆Seriously thanks ken for putting into words what’s going on ,I think one of the things that we are all beginning to realise is that by doing things together and sometimes differently to how they have always been done ,we can acheive a heck of a lot .
And this is just the beginning ….
Rest assured as all the members of the council( I hate that name as well-can someone think of something different )are truly independent the direction of the WTA will only ever be for the benefit of the independent’s.Lawrence

For starters i’d like the Association to address the witholding of technical info by the manufacturers, i’ve posted before about this showing how in the car industry the legislation makes this illegal and i see no reason why this industry shouldn’t be any different.
I’d also like to see a dedicated WEEE scheme for the association, not a money earner but something to take the hassle away from particularly the sole trader who might not sell a great deal of new machines.
I would want the Association to elect an officer dedicated to dealing with governmental issues such as the environment and taxation, and to form channels of communication with other associations that may be relevant to small businesses. Along with that i’d like to see a dedicated communications/press officer to get the ‘splash’ of publicity that will make our voice be heard.
Big asks maybe but why not?
Intersting how we have most of the bases covered here ,how much do we want to tell Clive that we are doing ? .
other random thoughts on the back of what Clive has saidThe Weee scheme – could we ask John & Ian Dales if they would prepare a policy of some description as they have had many sleepless nights over the WEEE directive .
The press officer -If Chris is up for it then I say go that Penguin… .
the Government link thing -Does that cover what Ade is doing ?
