Why have the manufacturers not made representations to CORGI? Is there anyone on the CORGI Council even related to this industry, if not, why not? Do none of the retailers or their associations have anything to say about this as it will affect them too? Why has DASA not taken a more active role in this matter, why are they not working in partnership with other trade organisations to combat this? Does anyone bar us even care
K.I had forgotten about this maybe someone who has access to Dasa forum could ask the question for me ?
Dasa if you want to increase your membership why are you not doing something about this (or are you ?)
Maybe I would be interested in joining you if I could actually see some worth in it ,these are the very issues that are affecting our trade and gradually strangling it . Its all very well trumpeting strong links with manufacturers etc ,But if you can’t provide them with the skills they need then surely theres no point .or am I missing it ( the point)

ParticipantRe: Badly packed spares
We once ordered an Ocean frzr door (the large one ) and a servis backplate on the same order from electrue ,We recieved the door all nicely bubble wrapped and foam injected into the box but no backplate ,although it was on the invoice as despatched ,imagine my delight when I opened the fridge door to check for damage only to find the backplate sitting on the painted side of the door scratching the hell out of it .
And our account had special pick and pack status on it due to the amount of damaged parts we had been recievingOn another note many moons ago when we sold Candy we kept getting machines with severely damaged cosmetics.
this all seemed to tie in with a new delivery driver ,So I went and watched him unload by TURNING the machines end over end until they got to the back of his wagon strangely I declined to sign and promptly sent them all backLawrence

I normally find this works as well ,Shame they are not a better quality in the first place though
eastlmark wrote: Dont worry chris, we have all been confused by that commutator word being used by SMEG etc but we all use now it just to confuse everyone else.
This always makes me laugh, the way the manufacturers describe parts in their parts listings Smeg and servis have to be the worst want a Servis drum ?then order a Basket assy !!??
for a Smeg selector switch read commutator (as above)
anyone got any more ? Maybe this is a new thread on its own ?Lawrence

kwatt wrote:No surprise at the write-off levels, that’s one of the reasons we dropped the GBDAR work as I was fed up be paid a half fare for an increasing amount of calls
K.Same here ,We got out 2 weeks ago ,I think D&G have a replacement appliance contract with comet which always seemed strange to me as they sell AON policies I might be wrong and am more than happy to be corrected .

ParticipantRe: lonely women
Ref why do customers etc…..Is there any merit in a re launch?
maybe amalgamating the amusing anecdotes thread ,Bra wire ,Lonely women why do customers et al into a seperate forum altogether called industry humour or something ,And maybe after a certain amount of time do a poll for the funniest and the winner recieves a UKW mug or mouse mat or something and then it starts all over again for a set amount of time before another vote ,It may be the spur people req to put some of the wierd stuff that goes on with Jo publicLawrence

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Advertise Franchises!
According to an e-mail response to my franchise enquiry they dont need further engineer strength in my area so they dont want me 😥 .
Which then begs the question why am I doing Hotpoint calls for D&G where the customers kick up rough about having to wait weeks for a first visit 😕
I was a bit dissapointed at not even getting to the rates stage of a conversation as I was curious ,And relishing the chance to have a discussion with them .
Ah well

ParticipantRe: Commercial Repairs
I have repaired commercial laundry equipment for a number of years ,Some of the american style top loaders are a dream to work on .
we do anything from an 18lb fast spin m/c to a recently installed 50lb Rigid mount washer /extractor (bolt to the floor job).
mainly nursing homes ,The odd stables washing horse rugs ,but increasingly joe public wanting the american style toploaders.
I have a few cabinet D/Ws in nursing homes ,Yes sometimes it can be grim due to the kind of laundry they wash but it is lucrative ,Yes they want a fast response but the difference is they expect to have to pay for it ,And they do
In fact I have just ditched one of our domestic agencies as the volume was compromising the commercial side of thingsLawrence

Dave.
put mega{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} mark up on it add handling and packing fee and “Voila”
most spares suppliers wouldnt touch Smeg parts with a bargepole so you have people over the proverbial barrel
Until UKW came along 😉

ParticipantRe: Waste product
One way I put it is “the good news is your appliance is working but the bad news is I have to leave you the old parts ” when she says why I say to show what I have fitted but when you need to get rid of it speak to the council to dispose as after all thats why you pay your council tax ,Normally said with a bit of humour most stuff gets left on site .Old machines go to a scrap yard locally. But I am aware this area is set to become an absolute minefield of legislation
Ref fridge doors etc I plageurised a Servast /Smeg letter that quotes all the legislation etc chapter and verse and hand this to the cust as I walk in the door if they wont accept it I wont fit it.
would be interseted to know how others get onLawrence

kwatt wrote:dialogue should take place BEFORE new contracts are just dumped on the agents, not after the company has agreed to do the work at a rate and with conditions that may well not be acceptble.
K.But this is is exactly what they do all the time isn’t it ,And we are expected to take the work at whatever terms they have negotiated Apparently on our behalf ,Without them consulting us to guage our reaction /opinion ,How many of us told NESN that the DSG contract wouldn’t work?I raised this at an NESN mtg once and never did get a proper answer .
How many times have we said that pre-booked calls cannot work and yet some companies still insist on them,And it seems to just go onkheath wrote:I have heard nothing to cause me undue worry on this subject. The word is it effects a small proportion of the country Leicester, Derby and Nottingham. The scale of the problem is 4000 policies on whitegoods so thats not quite nationwide or across the board! I’m intrigued is this a trial by DSG or by connect? is it being done geographically and is it a new add on to coverplan ,Unfortunately I won’t be there at the weekend so cant ask anyone from connect
