ParticipantRe: Happy Birthday UKW!
Not long ago ,If we went to a BBQ or some such function and during conversation someone asked me what I did for a living,I would reply ” I work for myself repairing Washing m/c’s and the like” the inevitable qoute would come back well thats an odd trade to be in followed by my m/c has a strange fault, noise, way of working etc, etc. there cant be many of you around ,Well thanks to Ken for initially the Yahoo list and latterly the foresight of UKW and the support of Dave and Kevin I feel part of a much bigger team .
Thanks guysLawrence

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Advertise Franchises!
The sad fact is there is an ever decreasing pool of labour in this trade ,Plus you have guys whose fingers have been burnt previously by some of these companies e.g Mastercare ,NESN,Merloni ,Hoover GIAS etc….. who wouldnt touch it with a bargepole ,We have got to find a way of bringing new blood into the trade ,Oh and before someone comes back with the old chestnut “the fewer of us there are the richer pickings there are to be had ” don’t you believe it How many people are being paid what they call an”appropriate” rate for the likes of gas work ,and cooker hoods that take two people to bring down etc..

Now let me see, was is Mohammed that went to the mountain or the other way aboutI Bet Mohammed didn’t have the overheads we do combined with the ever increasing legislation ,And if he became a Franchisee the SLA he would come under .
I only know one person that took up a franchise option with a company and his tales make you shudder .Also I wonder if this is a pilot scheme in Sheffield ?soon to come to the local rag near you ,Perhaps we should all keep our eyes open

Has some one at Peterborough come up with this cunning plan……. lets franchise it cause we can save more money by ridding ourselves of our call centre staff and customer care assistance ………….oh and a manager or two………..the savings are endless
I seem to remember Mastercare trying Franchised agents ,I wonder if any are members of UKW?.
This smacks of a man with a calculator in Italy/Peterborough who has no experience of the servicing side of the industry to me.Lawrence

Sounds about right 🙄 I deal with an hotel who have an M3022 in the staff house ,Retailer ” no warranty problems at all sir ” SUK “every warranty problem under the sun ” Still, keeps me busy.

ParticipantRe: Servis Tumble Dryer
I have seen a few of these go and not only on Servis t/d’s ,Incidentally Martin as the machine is seven months old how come they called you in ?

ParticipantRe: Servis M3022/M module blown!
On the M3022/3024 range you can normally just stick in another module once you have checked the edge connector ,Just make sure customer knows not to lean across front of machine to get something out of the cupboard when its working ! If you need some edge connectors PM me as I have tons.
I also had a fault similar to Alex’s on an Identical machine ,3 modules later I hung in a motor out of sheer exasperation and it worked !! yet the motor checked out okay !?,Also worth noting is the mains filter I have had loads melt but I have had a couple go Live ~ Neutral Internally

ParticipantRe: The Customer is allways right!
I Have an Indesit dishwasher on D&G extended warranty ,Which means mr GDA has to call and fix 🙁 (so far door seal, soapdispenser ,Filter assy and an element ~but I digress) Just before christmas the disp failed not only did it take us two days to get through to them ,But then they couldnt call for two weeks after that 😯 ! you were allowed one not school time slot and it was an allday call as well ,So now if a customer /work provider tries to beat us up over service levels I refer to our experience of one of the biggest manufacturers .

The point is; they think they can ride roughshod over us, play a silly little game and move the work where & when they think fit at the drop of a hat. However, what goes around comes around. This is an ever decreasing circle and as demonstrated by the D&G GDA thing as well as Gias/Candy; it has started coming back to agents, the very same ones that were not good enough in the 1st place despite years of support given by such agents. As I say, they must get to saturation point and we all have good memories.

Exactly ! My Gran had a saying” what goes round comes round”And boy is it coming round ,Gone are the days of me taking any work that anyone offered me
I saw the light and have become a lot more choosy about who I work for and work on the analogy of what can I do for what they pay .
It makes me fume when you have some insurance companies paying more for an inspection than some companies are prepared to pay for a service call !
this bubble will burst eventuallyLawrence

Matilda wrote:Question for all – Have those who have signed up to CDSL found that their areas have changed, they are playing second fiddle to other companies
Hi Matilda
In my experience of working for any DSG contract ,They always have a plan B or in your case a B agent ,They won’t put all there eggs in one basket but they normally expect you to,To make any contract work pay you have to have sole rights to a designated area otherwise you are at the beck and call of somebody elses workload.

Some day soon the manufacturers are going to get involved in this,Because soon there are going to be no CORGI trained guys left and equally none that can be trainedLawrence
