111 09 90-83 / 3 comes up on Connect mediator. But this has been replaced by 111 09 84-15/8 on lux.co.uk and is a few quid cheaper.

Is that the proportion where no parts were needed or where parts were needed?OTTOMH, my percentage would be 55 no parts/ 45 parts.
I’d be a bit reluctant to make it too public as I wouldn’t want to encourage too much DIY.

Thankyou sirs. Should be no problem then. I’ll let him know. Had been thinking of the Fray Bentos option but I don’t think he’d eat that stuff and they may have made it obsolete? Margerine maybe, but would it stand the heat? My personal preference if this disaster were to befall me would be some sort of ceramic dog dish but I suppose it would be difficult to find one shallow enough. (There again I know a few potters. Maybe a special commission would be in order.) As for the tip, they’re awful restrictive round here about anybody trying to recoup anything. Used to be great down there. Once got a Quad 303 amp for a quid. Then all this health and safety nonsense and wee regs and stuff kicked in and they refurbished the place, took on more staff, gave them hard hats and yellow jackets, made the skips accessible for wheelchairs etc. :rolls:
Would the apparently much-favoured next Tory government change any of that? Maybe I should stand as a return to old values candidate and make this country third-world again, like it was in the Eighties.

Possible faulty water leakage control device in base if it has one.

You can get all these files off Connect’s “mediator”.
Meantime check your inbox.

Well, you’d be surprised. I hadn’t thought of this before in connection with this thread (honestly) but one of my many friends who is enjoying life “walking about” at the moment asked me to look at his cooker before Xmas. It was blowing the trip as soon as he switched on. I sorted it out at a special friends price by disconnecting the grill element. (Well, it was a little more complicated but to cut to the chase.) In the meantime he had bought a £14.99 “raclette” (Swiss idea thing for one of their melted cheese dishes) from Lidl and been using that as a hob! Anyway, at the time, I offered to get the grill element for him and fit it inclusive for a tenner (That’s around £2 over trade price for the bit but he is a really good friend.) I got the bit into stock but still have it as despite the fact that I see him every week he keeps putting it off till he can spare the tenner.

If they can do microwaves for £20 to £40 I don’t know what’s holding them back with fan ovens. I guess it’s the space taken up in warehouse, retail and transport by larger items.
Has anyone else had fewer (nice, easy money) elements to do of recent months / years?

My regular DHL driver is great. Can practically set the clock by him, and if I’m out he knows where to put it safe. Trouble is he sometimes has to have a day off and then I’m lucky if I see the parcel till he returns.
I’m working on the postmen. Managed to catch the Monday guy and sort it with him but the other bloke’s away so fast I only catch him when he wakes me out of bed to open the door. Then I’m too half awake to remember.

Well, I’m not a great one for cooking. But I wasn’t seeing this thread as a discussion of what’s the best way to cook but rather looking for an explanation for the fact I don’t seem to have had to replace more than a couple of cooker elements in 2010 so far!
As for the hob, that’s what I started the thread with.
And the title has a question mark in it so it was intended to invite discussion rather than stir up a wasps’ nest.

Doesn’t have to cook. Only needs to sell!

Maybe. But apparently you get three years guarantee in the price. A few of them will surely get through the three years?

Not listed at connect. Couldn’t you just tie in a cheap Beko one of more conventional design?

If he’s an engineer, why not get him to join the club. Should be fun and inject a new viewpoint, might even be a socialist. 😆
