ParticipantRe: Zanussi DWS919 dw not drain.
Thanks guys,
Didn’t even clock that there would have to be blades on the back of the impellor 😳
Will go back for another look next week.leavemetogetonwithit
ParticipantRe: Do you get penalised for being good?
When I was as green as grass and straight out of my six months’ “training”, I came across my first Hotpoint brush job. That was when you had to get the motor out from the back because the lid was not removable (18000 series).
I didn’t know why it wouldn’t go.(That’s why I put training in inverted commas). So I took the motor away and sorted it out at home.
I charged the lady in the end about one and a half times what I charge for the same job now! She was still as pleased as punch.leavemetogetonwithit
ParticipantRe: AAAAAaaaaarrrrgggghhh!!!!!!!Zanussi door seal.
I use a bit of wood of the right thickness, about 10″ long. I also cut a notch in it at about 7″ back from the end. (I don’t know the exact dimensions because I can’t find it at the mo.)
The notch fits over the lip of the cabinet thus the bit of wood not only holds the spring in place but also holds the complete drum assembly away from the cabinet saving me having to bend my wrists back so far.leavemetogetonwithit
ParticipantRe: Elusive fault
That’s interesting but there’s something that would be even more interesting. By what procedure did you diagnose the fault? Whatever that procedure is,I could have done with knowing it years ago.

Might be one of those where the concrete is bolted to the plastic drum front plate and the mountings break. Nice bit of experience for when you’ve got a few hours to spare 🙂 (Worst case scenario-Hoover cover parts only on most machines under 5 y.o. but you have to pay a hefty call out/labour charge). Nah, take your time, make some space in the kitchen and get on with it.
One last thought- you’ve checked the tacho coil?leavemetogetonwithit
ParticipantRe: petrol revolution….is it possible..people power
Sorry to put a damper on this but I don’t think it’ll work.
The moment Esso/BP or any other oil co. drops it’s price by ONE PENNY, millions of consumers will forget about boycots.
In case you hadn’t heard, oil supply is limited.
China and India and other developing countries are rapidly increasing their demand. All those bicycles are going out of fashion. They want to be just like us,rushing around in a mad dash (and rage) everywhere and cosequently suffering from childhood asthma, road deaths and injuries, destruction of tranquility, carving up of field and forest etc. etc.
Meanwhile, new oil discoveries are not keeping up with demand and the huge Middle East reserves are running down.
That Hurricane Katrina, which was very limited in worldwide oil supply terms, can have such an instant and considerable effect on oil price is a telling indicator of how desperate the situation has become.
Should you be interestd the web is packed with sites discussing this.
I don’t think I need to give any addresses, you could choose any likely keyword you like, even just the word “oil” and you”ll find plenty.leavemetogetonwithit

Is it on wooden floorboards? These can be a problem if they’re bouncy.
If the dampers were “in a bad state” then the customer may have been tolerating the condition for some time. Has s/he said as much? Always get as much info from them as you can before you start.September 7, 2005 at 11:04 pm in reply to: help- im back whirlpool w/drierAWG329 still advancing to end #146908leavemetogetonwithit

Am not very familiar with this machine but with this sort of problem I tend to use the “process of elimination”.
You know approximately what resistance readings to expect on valves, pump, heater, motor. Double check them all and check that all connections to them are firmly made. Stats are either n/o or n/c or several thousand ohms (often 30K) in the case of thermistors. Look to see if connections are firm again. Check all connectors to timer /electronic board, looking inside connectors with magnifying specs for flattened out connectors which could be causing intermittent non-contact.
The above can take some time but when you do it systematically it takes only minutes. The most time consuming is often getting connectors off.
If you’ve still found nothing, get all numbers off timer /boards etc. as well as machine model/serial no.s
Give Tony at EMW a ring and ask him if he’s heard of similar problems with these timers. He may well have done.(01159)652118
If that fails try ringing QER.0800-2798912
Whether or not you get to the bottom of this, the experience will do you no harm.September 7, 2005 at 2:33 pm in reply to: testing motors , how a wire it up to a 13amp plug.. #146678leavemetogetonwithit

do the right thing , stripped out all the wiring for the hotpoint including timer , module bypassed door interlock , first 1 up and running 🙂
couple indesits and zanussi’s next
🙂
If you apply a bit of pressure to the motor pulley with a lump of wood when it’s running at lowest speed that will tell you whether it’s giving enough torque to turn a drumfull. (You need to be sure of your test rig though). Don’t leave the lump of wood there too long or it will catch fire, just like on a Ray Mears programme.

Dave_Conway wrote:This is how I do it:
Live -> Field coil -> Other end of field coil (link to) -> carbon brush then the other carbon brush -> Neutral
The only problem is that many motors now have various taps to the field coil so it’s not always easy to work out which one’s to connect to 😉
Dave.
I’ve always put the live through brushes first but I’m not sure why ❓
I suspect this is the way it is on the machine at spin. I think the triac is on neutral side normally. ❓leavemetogetonwithit
ParticipantRe: late hotpoint w/d
Lots of people report poor drying results with w/d’s.
Ask if it’s had a lot of use before going to all that trouble.
Sometimes they aren’t used to them and expect results comparable to a seperate t/d. They might not be taking out half the load or they might be putting in heavy towels.Briefly operate machine with door open and (to avoid danger)motor unplugged. Feel air flow coming down – that should tell you whether condenser is clogged.
Forget to plug motor back in if you want to go back again.

ParticipantRe: Second Hand Spares
I live in an area of the country where a lot of poor folks live.(That’s official). If I can help a fellow poorman by using good secondhand parts then I will do so. It’s normally only worth the bother where it’s something reasonably expensive of course but I would not be above using an Askoll pump which was showing virtually no bearing wear and charging the customer £5 for it , especially if the rest of the machine is on a wing and a prayer. There are people round here up to their eyeballs in debt who can’t get any more “interest free” from Currys or wherever. Where motors are concerned, I rarely buy new. Ditto timers and modules.
With this new WEEE directive on the way, I reckon there should be an increase in s/h parts supply on the way. Also the cost and inconvenience of getting old machines taken away is already increasing and might hopefully have a rejuvenating effect on our trade.
I have only ever come across a couple of customers who specifically requested that replacement parts be new when they were £30 +.
I’ve often been asked if I have a secondhand doorcatch or suchlike to avoid the cost of a new one!
I operate the same policy as Phidom vis a vis guarantees.
Reduce,Re-use,Recycle. Ditch the throw away society that’s what I say.
One condition though. If I really thought that a new design of machine was going to save bucketloads of energy or water over the old wreck needing TLC then I’d advise that. But I’ve found the claims in that area are usually exaggerated.leavemetogetonwithit
ParticipantRe: Bosch Maxx WFO2466 sticking on programme
Don’t like to state the obvious but first place I’d look (after thumping it with my fist and still getting no response) would be conditioner valve solenoid coil.
I don’t worry about looking stupid anymore. If they don’t have confidence in my abilities then I just put the price up.leavemetogetonwithit

KirkThanks, that’s interesting. Thought there must be a weakness there somewhere. I’ll bet it’s just a matter of using narrower connectors so they don’t push against each other and distort the switch. Hmmm…think I’ll get this harness thing this time round.
