Sorry, you are warm but not the winner this time round . Please have another free go 😀 as your experience is a useful addition to the list of things to check for anyone else who reads this thread, having encountered the same fault.

Well I went back earlier this .., yesterday evening, and left it all spinning nicely after some stressful fault finding. Had soldered in the VR1 from the other board and, just as Dave had predicted, it didn’t make a jot of difference. So, following his and Jem’s guidance, I looked again at the motor. And across the brushes (which I had renewed on the first visit) I was getting a rather high reading at most points as I turned the rotor. So I thought maybe they just needed a bit of bedding in or maybe one was sticking. Did that but still no go. Thought I would have to dismantle the motor to find out which wire went where as they were all (eight) light blue and disappeared into obscurity. Then I remembered something about Servis modules being prone to edge connector problems so I squeezed and picked around with sharp point, all to no avail. Finally I did some more basic checking and found the problem.
There was a pointer, maybe two even, there in my first post but I had overlooked it. If I just told you what it turned out to be, you would just read it, say oh yeah, and move on rather than using your brain. Wonder if you can guess what the problem was and find the evidence that pointed to it?

Did one a couple of weeks ago. It was the RT314024. I think the MOTP was probably just taking the sledge approach, although I haven’t read his post. Not sure, but I imagine the other relays may be controlling the motor.

That’s clever stuff. Didn’t notice that.
The machine fills and empties.
The thing along to the right (footprint seen from reverse of board) is an LM7805. IIRC that’s a voltage regulator. Maybe I should check it? Would it be likely to have popped?electrofix wrote:bad news. since it is only a safety component it is unlikely to cause your no motor fault. although when it blew the resulting spike may have caused the problems

Well, I have to admit I didn’t think to check the motor for shorts etc., just assumed it would be OK. Guess I’d better check that when I get back before putting in this or another module. Looks like I may have to see what EMW have available. Already told customer it might cost that and she’s OK paying up to about half cost of a new machine. Economic situation these days seems to be stimulating business just a little bit.

It would make more sense to read up on flow meters and reed switches which you can find plenty on by searching this forum. Of course I’m assuming you’ve checked the obvious stuff like solenoid coil and H2O feed, p/sw if present, no sump / drain blockage. Only then consider a possible board fault and see if you can find anything to help in simple pcb repairs sticky.

ParticipantRe: How Much Do You Know About Washing Machines?
Well, interesting topic for my first visit in a while.
I think some of this is to do with the fact that there are umpteen makes and models which (as an independent) one will encounter. Whilst it is possible to become familiar with the cycles of a long production run series of models such as the earlier Hotpoints and Zanussis and even with some of the more modern machines which are big volume sellers, if I had to study the timer charts etc. for even 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the models I come face to face with in a month (with my low turnover) I would end up with an even more addled brain and a complete loss of the will to live.
The detergent training was useful but, TBBH, boring, and I haven’t really made much use of it or looked again at the books more than a handful of times. (Well, if you will give away a horse, you must expect the dentition to be closely examined.)
I’m not really that interested in washing machines; I mainly do it to pay the bills. Don’t expect all repairers to be passionate about what they do. It’s asking too much.

ParticipantRe: List of washers with sealed/welded tubs
Is there a list of machine models with sealed tubs anywhere on this site? It would be really useful for those of us who find it difficult to find the time to join in endless discussions about the way of the world.
WAA28165GB/24 FD 0903 and no bearings visible on Bosch website. Tub £135. So I guess it’s the bad news then?

It transpires then that there was a fully developed ecosystem within the cabinet with molluscs crawling everywhere, fed on by the red coloured large sardines in the bottom of the tank with rats cleaning up any waste produced by the others. Presumably the molluscs were finding an algal bloom of some sort on the surface of the module on which to feed.
I really can’t see this being repairable; it would take months to rebuild something that complex.

ParticipantRe: ZWF1432W Jumps off suspension every few months.
Went back to this about a week ago. Installed new interlock and ran through the diagnostics quickly. Machine now working OK but had a recorded error of E51 – shorted triac (checked that twice.) Did not delete it as couldn’t remember how. Am wondering if there is an intermittent short in the loom somewhere or possibly on the motor wiring itself (which would explain codlets’ experience.) Anyway I left it for customer to do her own test. She has reported back that it works fine so far but still has the problem of extended times on hot wash (60 deg) but OK on synthetics (40 deg.) Further questioning revealed that it doesn’t get past main wash on hot prog. and she comes to it hours later and resets it to a rinse and spin programme :rolls: . So, me thinks there probably be something amiss around the heating circuit somewhere but don’t get why it works OK on 40 😕 . Oh well, she’s happy for the time being and I’ll pop in next time I’m over that way and it coincides with her day off.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WM72
You could suggest she plug it into a plug-in timer at the wall socket and / or use the rinse hold programme.
