I’m not sure but I vaguely remember converting one to t’other by changing the pulleys over. Also remember it being a little bit of a struggle though.

Should solid gold information like this ever be allowed to get out into the public domain? After all there would be little chance of them hurting themselves. Mind you, it’s effectively already out there once the customer has seen you using it.
And has anyone got any good tips on how to get the best out of the site search engine or do I have to start a new topic?

Thanks for the prompt reply. I’ll be going back there next week and will post again when job done.

Hi everyone and a slightly late Happy New Year.
I remembered seeing this problem referred to before.
After much searching found a post by farmboy in “What’s the most useful tool in your toolbox?”
He advocates a bit of p/sw tubing if I understand him correctly, though he doesnt say how but I think we can guess. Sounds well worth a try.
PS Any ideas how to get the best from the site search engine?

She had to be winding you up. Maybe she just didn’t like people getting too close.

ParticipantRe: What makes door seal rubber turn to grey goo?
Ah! The last one I did, which prompted my inquiry, is used to do the washing (c.3 loads/day) for a restaurant. So could be the reason.
Thanks.

Well, those things seem likely but why does the problem seem restricted to certain makes? I have a feeling that some “rubber” spontaneously turns to goo (in patches) due to something in its own composition.

Many happy returns 😀 ……oh perhaps I shouldn’t have used that phrase.

Ditto. Despite placing 3 orders so far.

And oddly enough this morning I fitted a s/h Sole motor to a FLS1185QW
which was the first time I remember ever doing such a job. The part no. differed only on the last digit yet I had to reverse the f/coil conn.s to make it go right way.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi FLA 1201W motor price
Was browsing e-bay t’other day and noticed some bloke in Fleet (Hants.?) selling a number of Sole motors (s/h) dead cheap and a tenner post.
Also, I’ve got a 124271701 480/14000rpm pulley dia 20mm pulley + shaft length 64mm 8 tag plug . It’s a small motor. no brushes.
£10+ post.

Er,yeah I’m guilty of that. Fridge/freezer repairs appears in my ad. as an “also” item. I’m quite frank about it when they ring up though and if I can tell over the phone that it’s probably not a stat or starter then I give them at least one phone number of a local refrigeration specialist. I’m tending to redirect quite a lot these days what with this frost free stuff and all the fancy electronics. Before I accept a job I always ask if it’s worth spending £X on to eliminate the “rusting hulk with door hanging off” type jobs.
If I get to a job and find it’s beyond my capabilities I don’t charge.

Yep, I read that on the sticker on the side of the timer before fitting and I was already aware of it anyway. Funny enough I had to hunt through my box for some suitable spring washers as there didn’t seem to be any with the original screws. (They were the type with serrations (sp?) on the contact face of the screwhead anyway and I think they were relatively short so it’s possible that Zanussi have sussed that problem by now).

Relieved of any further worry about this one as customer decided to knock it on the head and buy new. Praise be for small mercies. Luckily I got my call out fee before leaving last visit. Sometimes I think we spend too much time piddling around with these unusual faults – time which we could spend more lucratively passing over to go to easier jobs. It is of course helpful to build up a store of such experience but with more and more makes and models you’re less likely to get the same faults repeated.
