    Re: Zanussi, powder stains

Overdosing is much more likely in households where cheap soap powder is used and they “don’t have time” to worry about the water pollution. Ecover has a dosing carton in with it.

Whether eco balls are just that I can’t say although I do have a friend who uses them and is satisfied with the results. She has sensitive skin.

Let’s face it, the way people wash once-worn stuff these days most of it would come up fine with no detergent at all.

Might be worth suggesting to customer pre-dissolving powder in a jug first with very hot water especially if they’re using low temp wash.

    Goosegreen,
As these good folks are concerned for our environment you could suggest “Eco-balls”. Even if they didn’t work, your customer would be happy that you shared her concern for the planet.

You could measure the resistance of it and if it is same as hotpoint one in dimensions and resistance try a hpt one in its place. Often though it can be just the connector which is not making good contact. Worth checking that first as it doesn’t take time. Also connector at module end if you can find it.
To check thermistor operation put a little water in drum, just enough to cover element (with front of m/c swung open). Use a seperate mains lead to power the element whilst having your meter connected by croc clips to ntc terminals. Monitor change in resistance as temp rises. Alternatively, just loosen grommet, pull out ntc and check it in your tea. These methods are no guarantee though as the things can be intermittent.

Thanks for the tip, Chris. We have soft water here and the only times I’ve ever needed to replace a heating element are when it has been grooved due to spider fracture (Hotpoints mainly of course). You lucky devils in hard water areas who get these nice easy little earners replacing heating elements don’t know how lucky you are. 😆

Oh hang on aminute. IS the Antarctic ice made with hard water? 😆

…..NTC means that as the enviromental temperature around the thermistor rises….. Dave.

Ah hah! Obviously the reason we get so much trouble with these things these days. It MUST BE global warming 😆

Yeah, I noticed that too. The 95 ones didn’t go till they were ten years old or so. Somebody told me or I read that it was due to deterioration in the quality of aluminium due to recycling. Sounds plausible.

I’m gonna be going back Wednesday. It’ll be interesting to see what the meter(with new battery) and megger each show. I’m hoping it’s just gonna be carbon build up round the motor and that it’ll respond to a good clean up.

So I doubt you’ll get a reply. Why not just tell us the fault details and tap into the collective wisdom/guesswork?

u can have ptc’s as well but they arent very common.

I thought thermistor ntc and ptc were all thermistors ❓
Is the thing in a fridge relay a ptc or an ntc ❓
I’ve been in this trade for some time too but I think it’s useful to pick the brains of people fresh out of college who haven’t had time to forget the “useless” stuff. (And the brains of the old boys who haven’t given up yet and become astranouts in Spain).
