You weren’t just being impatient were you Ashby? (I would be, after a job like that). These bl””dy things can take ages to get into a spin and some’ll pause silently, on the way, so you think they’ve finished when they haven’t. Best thing to do is put it on to test while you start packing the tools away. (Don’t do what I do though and start testing as you’re putting the panels back on; and don’t tell anyone I said that).

What about the 2 x 95/WM kits for Β£20 ?
Is there a quality issue?
Or perhaps we’re all just too cynical?

ParticipantRe: Why the price difference?
It’s unbelievable the vast range and price differences of drain pumps. And a standard Askoll or Plaset will usually avoid anyone having to buy one of the fancy priced things complete with chamber.
Brushes too. How many ways to package a bit of 12×4 carbon?
So what does EIDE stand for, then?

Sounds ideal except I’d be worried about dropping it!

WTF?
Is that an acronymph or a part number?leavemetogetonwithit
ParticipantRe: Stolen tools, mega meter and whirlpool spares
Maybe it would be worth you setting up a search for the meter on ebay with e-mail notification if you hadn’t thought of it already, although it might have passed through a few hands by the time it gets there.

This thread, which I came to whilst doing a search for a motor, has got me thinking. π‘ I reckon quite a few of us have quite a lot of stuff we’re never going to use and it’s all gonna get dumped in the end. π₯
If we each took the time to list it and post the lists on “classifieds” – no prices till somebody wants something π – then when anyone wanted an obsolete / shockingly expensive part they could use the search engine to see if it’s in there. I already began some time ago posting individual bits in there and they’re sitting there waiting and it’s not costing me anything.
I’m gonna make a list of the dozen or so motors I’ve got. If several people do the same it’ll be quite a resource.

I’d go for a cheap multimeter because it’s getting a lot of rough and tumble and you can’t afford to be having to worry about damaging it. My last one cost me Β£15 second hand 7 years ago. I could get one as good now for a tenner new. And in fact I may have done (though it has yet to stand the test of time). In fact the thing I got recently from Connect was Β£8.60 + vat and has a thermocouple. (Though the connector broke off the sensor as I unwrapped it, but I fixed that). (And today the supplied battery “Golite-heavy duty” — what have they done with the rotfl emoticon?– gave in after approx 20 mins total use). Still, tonight I went down Lidl’s and got a new alkaline PP3 for Β£1.50 and it all seems OK again.
Haven’t got capacitance which is sometimes useful but there’s other ways to check that, aren’t there? …aren’t there?Would be interesting to know what meggers people use. I’ve had mine (“Eagle” analogue) for 17 years. It was Β£40 second hand then. Still does the job but I’d like something very much more portable.

Yeah, but on the other hand what they’re saying about Yellow Pages is true.

Just had a read of that, despite being on holiday. π
I think I would have just told him to find a way of making sure the screw stayed tight, like Araldite or some such; which is what I’ll probably use if my customer’s screw comes loose again. π―
Interesting that in this case the “drum cradle” doesn’t appear to have been in the way.

Er, my abilities to operate a computer don’t quite stretch that far. π³
If anyone else would do it, might I suggest “Common refrigeration hints” as a title. There could be others for “Pump problems”,”Motor problems” etc.
If people had such resources available we’d avoid being asked/having to ask obvious questions and be able to go to bed earlier.
