It does amaze me how Electrolux, Indesit, Candy, seem quite happy to totally destroy pretty respected names like Zanussi, hoover & Hotpoint.
I mean, have they not noticed whats happened to the once respected Servis for instance ?
I’m sure no expert when it comes to running a multi-national company but it seems short sighted to focus so much on volume when surely a PROPERLY made product sold in fewer numbers but at higher profit, gives you the same bottom line.
Now, to tempt people to part with more cash you need an established, trusted brand of course, with a reputation built over decades, there is no short cut with this, which is why i just dont get the current markets direction, once a reputation is tarnished, thats it.Oh well, wadda i know :rolls:

Well, on a positive note, the first week back after new year has almost always been very slow for me.. not this week.. starting to book work for Monday now. Grand 🙂
Long may it continue.. a Porsche wont pay for itself 😉 (i wish)Madmac

I was putting a door catch on a Zanussi 919T yesterday.. its second in its 24 year life according to my customer, oh, & a new belt was fitted 5 years ago.
Two things struck me when looking this machine over.. first was the sheer quality of the thing, its only when you hav’nt seen a machine from this era for a while that you realise just how far standards have fallen.
But then i wondered what our workload would be in the repair caper if all machines were still made this way.. selfish maybe, but hey, its my sole income!
If memory serves, when these machines were common it would often be 5 years between visits.. not great for business to be quite honest, you have to respect the engineering standards though.
If it was’nt for the slightly flaky Hotpoints of the same era i doubt i would have had enough work to survive!IMO the two main threats to the repair industry are static retail prices year in year out & the high cost of spares. The plunging pound will possibly help the first problem but exacerbate the second.. :rolls:

‘The daily idiomatic’.. Is that another simple to use washer from Indesit? They’re being downright patronising with that name IMO. 😉

Certainly had a few of these over the years too, oh well, at least the current cold fill machines should prove less of a technical challenge for the poor confused souls.. :rolls:

Reading through his posts, it certainly should be.. God i’m glad i run my own business & ocassionally, just ocassionally, can use my right to tell people like him to stick their custom just as far up their arse as they can get it, & never call me again. IT FEELS SOOOOO GOOD. 😆

ParticipantRe: Whats the nicest things customers do?
Cant help noticing that this thread is barely more than 2 pages long, while the annoying customer rants spread out over 27 pages 😆
Now, that means we white goods monkeys are a bunch of moaning bar stewards or the British public are the spawn o the devil.. 😉Madmac

Well, she & her hubby had been fiddling with the thing for days, to no avail. Her saviour (me) got it back to normal in approx 4 secs. So, make of that what you will. Anyway, like i said, you cant win with some peeps. 🙁

Went to this today, tried helo’s tip of on/ start/pause off. Bugger me it worked 😯 Thanks helo 😉
So all the while my punter was practically draped over my shoulder noting what i was up to. Was she pleased when greeted with the sight of a working machine again?? Was she bollox, “oh you could have told me that over the phone , you get your money easy dont you” etc etc.Even when i reduced my callout to £20 basically just to cover my costs she was still implying i should be wearing a mask.. cant bloody win can we 👿

switch it on.. press the start / pause button then switch it off
if that dont work scrap it
Cheers helo, do i keep the start/pause button pressed as i switch it off ?
I’ll have a poke around it to keep her sweet but i certainly aint getting involved in a big way, i have told her the likely outcome in advance 😉Madmac
ParticipantRe: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?
Its when people change their front door & cant be arsed putting the number back up for years that pees me orf. Sometimes theres no numbers on loads of houses either side too, leaving you nothing to go on. :rolls:
This very circumstance made me wander up a garden path ( the wrong path) a couple of years ago, only to have a rather nasty border collie ruin my Levi’s by sinking his teeth into my calf :eeek: No more jobs that day, my leg was painful for days. The joys.. 😕Madmac
