    Re: Haier products

I know a comet engineer who has to cover most of north Scotland & let me tell you he’s a very stressed fellow. On the verge of leaving in fact.

Having to deal with Haier products is apparently a huge part of it for him, one machine actually caused a house fire & £40,000 worth of damage.. it was under 1 month old 😯

But yes, the Chinese CAN build a quality product if thats what they’re asked to do.. i’m writing this on an HP laptop, nearly 5 yrs old, been totally reliable, never missed a beat.. made in China (ironically, bought in Comet, if memory serves 😳 😳 )

The only situation i think these would be useful for me is when trying to clear a dishwasher base flood. Always get raised eyebrows when i ask for some large towels ! These pads might look a tad more professional.. sound a little wasteful though.. 😯

Maybe Tony at EMW would be worth a call on this.. hellish waste if its BER already. Ironic if this becomes common, considering the long thread we’ve had about sealed drums.. the drums might not get the chance to wear out !! 😯

Sounds identical to fella i looked at 6 weeks ago Martin. Power to module, but dead otherwise, seem to remember similar price for PCB. Machine was barely out of guarantee, told punter to try bending manufacturers ear.. no doubt its bean cans by now.. :rolls:

I dare say that might be ok when you can get good access to really squeeze the old clips, ie, the ones on in line heaters. The output one on the askol replacement is a right painto get to i find.. now if the pump came with new clips… but that would be too much like sense. :rolls:

Re: One piece welded tub seized solid!

Its a fair point , if these sealed drums could be offered to us at a fair price & we could do the job in an hour or so, it might be workable.

Still seems a wasteful way of curing noisy bearings, but having said that, the pecentage of customers who actually call you when the bearings alone can still be replaced & not just run it till the belt falls off is small.

Ironically, given the start of this thread, i’ve had 2 Zanussi owners call me out for no drum movement in past 10 days. They had both ran it till the drum lip cut through the outer drum rendering it BER..

ARE THESE PEOPLE DEEF !! ?? :rolls:

    Re: Bosch dishwasher heater leak.

Yeah, ive seen a hole in one before caused by the heater. This however seems to be leaking where the rod which pushes the micro sw enters base. well, guess its gonna be a new assembly whatever. Told her to plead her case to Bosch, the machines pretty young.. poor show IMO.. 🙁

Re: One piece welded tub seized solid!

The only positive thought i have on all of this is i find it difficult to imagine just whats left for the mass manufacturers to re design & cheapen inside a washing machine.

Admittedly i didnt see the whole welded tub thing coming! 😯 but i mean think about it, lift the lid on a modern cheap machine & what have we got.

combined single valve & soap drawer, cheap pcb’s , welded drum, cheap sync pump, no filter, mickey mouse suspension, cheap concrete balance weights, spaghetti wiring (not just on Merloni 😉 ) so unless the actual cabinet or motor can be somehow be made cheaper i think possibly this trend has gone almost as far as as it can.

That of course ignores the fact emerging low wage countrys will always be more than willing to have the thousands of jobs a major white goods manufacturer can bring, and this will probably be the only area of serious cost reduction left to be exploited.

Martin’s right on one thing though, 😉 only those who can adapt will survive, & the numbers employed by this industry will likely continue to contract. Nothing stays the same i guess.. 😥

Question: Can anyone tell me what percentage of a modern washing machine is currently recyclable? 😉

Everything (and I do mean everything) is recyclable – if the effort is forthcoming. Which, currently, isn’t.

    Chris.

I would think more than 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of appliance waste is easily recyclable. That will never change the fact that its far more efficient to make the product to last in the first place.

This profligate wasting of energy will come back to haunt us,9 billion people covering the earth soon, oil & gas long since peaked, it simply is not sustainable. 🙁

Re: One piece welded tub seized solid!

Im sorry Martin but your assertion about modern appliances being good value in relation to their price is pretty amusing frankly. At least half of whats commonly offered is simply not fit for purpose.. actually contravenes consumer law in my opinion.

Of course, people cant be a*sed complaining because it was cheap to buy anyway so it gets slung on the skip & they buy another.. probably from the same factory but with a different badge, and the vicious cycle continues.

Ok Martin, so £200 – £250 aint a lot in isolation, but the three year life we are steadily heading for with washing machines in particular leaves you with very different numbers taken over say 10 years.

Multiply that the world over & i really do think its literally a criminal waste of resources and energy, and of course, overall, the end user probably spends more on todays appliances than they did 10 or 15 years ago despite the seemingly low prices. Ironic, & very clever.

Good for you phidom. Let us know if you get a response. Not sure how the rest of us who are interested should play it, reams of similar e mails from engineers might look a bit odd.. or did you tell them the natives were restless on UKW 🙂 ?
