Re: One piece welded tub seized solid!

Well, when you see the enexorable fall down the price point scale the zanussi badge has had over the past few years it all makes sense.

The spindly spider/tiny bearings dodge has been practiced for many years by the bottom of market players, not such an issue with an 800 spin maybe, but in todays spin speed obsessed market ??

All makes sense to the company accountants no doubt, trouble is, its very tough to build a good brand reputation, but so easy to loose it, as Mercedes found out during its ‘bean counting’ period.

Regarding Kens watchdog idea, i think that might have legs. I mean, come on, if these sealed tubs end up with average replacement cycles well under 5 years & the customer stuffed if they have no warranty, then thats simply not cricket, totally unacceptable IMO.

As well as encouraging customers to complain, a call from a few hundred engineers would’nt do any harm, maybe one brave soul can appear as the obligatory ‘expert’ :rolls: 😆

the only trouble with your predicted 5 year lifespan Martin is 4/5 years is the point an indy engineer gets to pick up a few brush/ pump type jobs as machines come out of warranty.

Oh well, what will be will be.. 😕

Whatever their motive, and iv’e a feeling you’re pretty close to the truth robbra, its going to become the norm no doubt.

Well, to look at in a positive way, if these units are failing at around 3 yrs (merloni 👿 ) not sure how long bearings are lasting in other tubs but a non moveable object can ruin a drum at any time, there is gonna be a MASSIVE business opportunity for someone who can work out a way to re-con these at the right price.

A perfect example of why these sealed tubs are a truly awful idea. It does sound like a sock up the back of the drum Martin, something ive seen many times if memory serves..

The move towards this design makes my blood boil, i mean how much can it really save in build cost? Whats next.. plastic motor casings with non changeable brushes moulded in.. plastic inner drums.. you can bet your life they’l do it if its possible & saves a penny.

Sad to say that Electrolux are creeping onto my list of offenders i tell customers to avoid, there’s not a lot left to recommend 😕

Yep, surely its got to be the way the rotor magnets are arranged. not much you can do to change a single phase stator coil.

What a bloody awful motor though, got one to change next week, gonna take it apart cos now you got me interested p45 ! 😉

It is amazing what people think will be covered by house insurance.

I always give an analogy of a mechanical failure on their car not being covered by their motor insurance policy.. sometimes the penny then drops.. :rolls:

Thing is, its far from a victim less scam.. where do they think the money comes from.. Mars ??

    Re: eBay parts prices

yes, the ending of RRPs is what started the price erosion of white goods. free market competition and all that, fair enough. But is the customer getting a better deal compared to the old days. Absolutely not imo. Good price aint the same as good value :rolls:

    Re: Family tragedy!

Kinda reminds me of a job i was at a couple of yeare ago. While putting a new element in a fan oven i noticed a lot of scratching noises coming from the cavity wall behind the cooker.

Thinking she may have a rodent prob, i told the lass to come & have a listen. ‘oh no, thats just the birds that get in under the eaves & get trapped in the wall’ God, what a heartless bitch i thought, it had apparently been happening for years and they could’nt be arsed blocking the hole. The cavity must have been full of dead birds !

She seen how shocked i was & said she would get hubby to try to get it out & block where they were getting in, debatable if anything was ever done, some people have no heart 🙁
