ParticipantRe: Partscenter Friend or Foe??????
Dear Washvac Wayne,
I gave up ordering spares from Wash Vac last September after 32 years trading with them as my main genuine parts wholesaler 🙁
Since that time I have had no contact from them either by mail or any rep contact whatsover. The last contact I recall was having spoken to someone at Parts Center head office, they were going to find out who my rep was, so he could call me to arrange a visit? :con:
That was 3 months ago……!! 🙄
Yesterday I found a small jiffy bag that supposedly contained a back-ordered Whirlpool Dryer Element, on opening this very small package I discovered it contained a vacuum cleaner belt of some kind with the same catalogue number (that should have been a Whirlpool element??)
I then tried ringing Wash Vac in Sittingbourne and after 14 minutes of being told “your call is important to us!” (or some such tripe) I hung up and phoned head office to give them an ear-bashing. The nice lady there promised to contact Wash Vac for me and get them to ring me back.
Blow me but less than 5 mins later a lady from Sittingbourne rang to enquire what problem I had. I explained I have been sent a belt instead of an element, that I didn’t want either and simply wanted to return the part and have my account credited in full. The returns slip enclosed with the part required an “authorisation number” from Washvac before the part could be returned. The lady at Washvac had never heard of this procedure and enlisted the help of a ‘call center’ staff, who also didn’t have a clue as to what I needed in order to return the part???
So I just stuck a 1st class stamp on it and posted back to Ripon (where it came from)………..and they can stick it where the sun don’t shine as far as I care 👿
Yours sincerely
EX Wash Vac customer

ParticipantRe: NEFF Integrated washer drier
A Bosch 6565 integrated uses the Qualtex brushes (Part No CAR61) or the Indesit equivalent which is : C00041078

Take a motor and module, brushes and a heating element along with you just in case 🙂

ParticipantRe: Electrical Safety & Legal Legislation
Having now read the IEE Code of Practice (again), it does indeed state 0.3 megohms and a measured touch-current of 0.75 mA apply. In which case I think that those values are quite ridiculous and unworkable and those that carry out PAT testing and such-like should seriously question those regulations.
And what’s all this about?
….. “Note to Table 2” (Note 1 on page 44):-
“Heating and cooking appliances: the earth leakage of appliances with relatively high loaded heating elements could be such that they may be unable to meet the insulation resistance requirements. This may particularly be the case when metal sheathed mineral-insulated elements are used. It may be necessary in some cases to switch on appliances for a period of time to drive off the absorbed moisture before commencing testing……”
Now in my book (still unwritten by the way) is that if it fails at 0.3 megs or lower from a ‘cold test’ then running the appliance in the fervent hope it may give an improved reading is just plain barmy. 🙄
1.0 megohm is also far too high but fortunately these days most RCD based consumer units would blow anyway by then! 🙂
So in conclusion, my ‘rule of thumb and sod the regs’ = 4 megohms or higher and I will disable the appliance until its corrected (or note a warning to the owner on my invoice) 😈

Wilf,
I think you are a prime candidate for needing Soap Powder & Technology Training. The modern washing machine gives far better results than any previous generation but they differ so very much from the past models. That difference needs some explanation to you in order you may have a fuller understanding when confronted by your customers.
Energy labels cannot be derided as”Euro crap” as they are a simplistic guide to the general public of the machines overall performance. The importance of having those labels on each machine cannot be overstated as it demonstrates all the machines capabilities to the consumer before they even part with their money and take it home!
A little knowledge goes a long way in this business and cannot be overstated and to use your own words for a moment……
….”true trust me!”

Are you sure?….that’s ridiculously high 😯

And don’t get me onto their Dish__washersWhooops! I highlighted the wrong bit in my last post 😳
We all know about coins but some manufacturers and their drum bearings eh 🙄
Bosch bearings (models under 5 yrs old that is) never fail, I wonder what their secret is ❓

I’ve got a call tomorrow near where she lives so I might call by and take another gander. She only uses colour liquitabs as far as I know so I might suggest she switch to powder tabs instead?

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WM76 Error 15
Martin,
The drum bearings you say are going? If that’s the case no doubt the inner drum is loose on its shaft and likely to have clobbered the heating element?
Duff heating element will give you E15
New drum spigot/bearing kit (part no 1611166) and a new heater (part no 1602026) are required I reckon 🙁

Mike,
Have you got power to the inlet/safety valve under the sink and has its water block device tripped?
