    Nice one Penguin!

I will nip into Maplins today if I get a chance and check it out.

In most cases using these red and blue butt connectors I have first soldered the tips of the wires before crimping, which helps. And it never ceases to amaze me how lots of folks don’t even realise to crimp the end of the connector over the sleeve. (One crimp clamps the wire, the other the sleeve)

All the more reason not to quote them manufacturers r.r.prices then if your only getting a pathetic trade discount!

You will need to reduce the Rinse Aid somewhat in that case. The general ‘rule of thumb’ is that if your glassware has spots on it, you need to INCREASE the setting slightly. If your glassware gets cloudy/chalky looking, you need the REDUCE the setting slightly.

I think the latter applies in your case?

    Hope that helps?

kwatt wrote:That said, if we went forward on the code of practise/charter thing then maybe it would mean a bit more in time. And, like all such things, it can take years for it to sink into the trade’s never mind public’s minds.

Ah! Now your talking and I see where you’re going here with this idea. I too see the need for a more representative accreditation the public and trade alike will aspire to. At this present time I believe we have just two distinct area’s that this trade can gain accreditation. On the one hand (and I believe most importantly) we have The Trading Standards Association that directly represents the general public and is linked with local and national government legislation.

And on the other we have various trade associations whose strident efforts over the years in trying to bring this business into line, have simply lost their way, so far have only achieved little other than to create small groups of members in a kind of ‘Freemasons Society’ 😉

What is needed here is just one recognised trade accreditation that encompasses the established trade ‘Code of Practice’, that will be solely recognised by Trading Standards as a goverment/national standard. Get that sorted under the UKW logo and the whole thing will snowball into a something really big and worthwhile!

I think its very nice too Ken, I printed off the draft and I believe it would look good on any business wall alongside their other certificates.

Not sure what it would truly signify to the general public at large though? What type of accredition it represents, that kind of thing?

My UKW Whitegoods ‘Certificate’ hangs proudly on my website http://www.enterpriserepairs.co.uk/contactus.htm which in my case I believe has a similar effect for the public at large, hopefully ❓ I haven’t got a shop wall to nail one up on anyway 😉

Just 2 thoughts spring to mind for you to check first:-

1). Is the salt being used up gradually in its container? (Usually salt will need topping up fully every 3 weeks or less if you use the machine once a day!)

2). Do not wash a ‘full load’ on an ‘Economy’ setting.

Sorry old chap, now I know where your coming from. 😳 Forgive me being a bit thick as my mind full of Mondays woes and all. Its just I didn’t associate your last Saturdays flash of inspiration with Dave and the CES thread.

Too many threads and this old b*gg*r gets confused. (You young bucks have got this to come you know!)

With you now all the way, yes, yes. Will start rummaging my dusty shelves stacked full of priceless items than many will simply drool at the chance of buying……………… ❗ ❗

    K.

Your flash of inspiration was indeed heeded by many of us, I am sure. I personally was a little confused in that I wasn’t sure what the ‘Shop Module’ was you refer to? 😳 (I felt I shouldn’t ask at this stage, perhaps I should know? and felt sure someone else would enlighten me soon enough)

Also, not altogether sure what kind of spares you were thinking of as an example we should put forward to your plan? 😳

Error Code “UE” means = “Unbalanced Load”. So you must be trying to spin something that cannot distibute itself evenly around the drum. Try adding more clothing to balance it up?

Bryan, how on earth did you manage to translate a possible American Top Loader with a motor fault out of that? 😯

Must be the “f&p” I guess, whatever that means 🙄

Will watch with interest what develops. How is your Evil Twin by the way…..

    Fred,

You are on the wrong web site mate for your type of question???? This is a WHITEGOODS site. We repair washing machines, fridges, not Mosfets on circuitboards.

We wouldn’t have a clue even about what you are asking, What’s a f&p washer when its at home anyway???

    Sorry!

I have since rung De Dietrich’s spares dept and it is part no GB93460101 priced at £80.63 + the usual.

Next question : Can I get it cheaper elsewhere I wonder?

Penguin45 wrote:Why are we all so obsessed with prices? We quote the customer retail plus VAT and labour and know we’re getting a discount (You are, aren’t you?), so what does it matter? We’re not paying, the customer is!

I cannot afford to quote my customers ‘Retail’ prices on spares when I only get a 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount from many of these wholesalers. My obsession with spares prices ensures I buy at the right price with a minimum markup of 35{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. I am not running a charity here!

penguin45 wrote: Personally I’m far more interested in availibity and speed of delivery than price. The only time it’s an issue is when we’re building re-cons and need to maximise margins.

You see! my point exactly, you too have “a need to maximise margins”, for me it is essential I do just that on every job.

Hopefully the 1600474 will be available for many years to come. Since the demise of the Hotpoint Armature though I wonder if that would be true?

Better stock up on them too just in case?
