    Re: Motivation

Seems to me that streetlighter is finding that being a ‘kept man’ 😉 is none too fulfilling a lifstyle. When he does spring into life he is no stranger to hard graft as he is not frightened to work in the evenings (something I have NEVER done). Proves to me he can and does have a certain ‘get up and go’ which is fine.

Fishing, Playstations and all the other mind numbing activities he has sampled, which will bore anyone to death in no time at all anyway. 😥

No, my advice (using Del’s nomenclature “Therapy Corner”) is stick to 8 jobs a day, starting around 8am. and spend the afternoon fishing (in season) or on the golf course. Home in time for tea!

Who takes the kids to and from school and cooks the evening meal I hear you ask?………..Why THE NANNY of course! 😉

    Keep smilin’

Plus the software on DVD which links via the internet to their main server is second to none. 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of our total spares sales are via Connect/Electrue, and we don’t generally have any problems.

I got my Electrue DVD today to play with if nothing else. It sure seems a pretty good on-line system I must say, very useful, but my initial observation though (using several test part numbers, from various manufacturers) is that Electrue-Connect sure are pricey!

Wash Vac – Parts Center still wins hands down especially with their Stocklink. No need to go on-line to get the info you need, parts, prices, stock levels are all there on my laptop in the customers house, just where I need it. Much greater stock levels too and much lower prices.

I will only use Electrue/Connect I reckon for those bits Wash Vac are out of stock of!

By being self employed with a huge mortgage, mouths to feed and a phone ringing off the hook!

Aside from that I don’t understand the question? What further motivation would anyone need in my position?

Whats your problem streetlighter, tell all!

    Re: A Little Experiment…

There surely is a market for this via CES and very applaudable indeed. Of course it must be a margin above normal retail to make the venture worthwhile, the markup retail prices are often too low anyway.

So many visitors to this site want spares anyway, no point in letting them go elsewhere!

    Re: UKW Merchandise

Well my Genuine UK Whitegoods Mug whilst a little costly does a great job, my tea keeps warm for quite a while and it washes nicely in the dishwasher. Can’t say fairer than that after all.

Incidentally it was shipped to me via Germany I believe, took about 8 days from ordering to arrival.

    Cheers!

Re: Can anybody reccomend a firm to recon pcb’s and modules

Just received EMW’s Catalogue today, seems very interesting. Thanks to you guys I have another contact for Module repairs/supplies as I have never heard of EMW til now! (Never bothered with recon Timers though, would like to hear your comments in that department just the same).

What I did find interesting in their catalogue as well, was that they obviously have experience with the current Indesit/Ariston modules. Apparently they refer to them as Mark 1, 2 and 3 variants, and mention also the Slave Timer and Display Modules for WE series machines…..All good stuff which gives hope for us repairing these lousy machines at least?

Yes it is a complete “Inner Door Panel/Glass Assembly” possibly Part No: C00090770 Cost around £30 complete (Need better clarification on the exact oven Model No. and Serial No. though).

It cannot, repeat, cannot be glued as for safety reasons is assembled under factory conditions, any tampering may cause the whole glass unit to shatter. A full replacement the only logical/practical solution !

    Wow!

You got a tricky one there Lee, It’s the first case of its kind we have heard of! First place to look would be the drain pump, I would imagine. Possibly the wax may have solidified within the pump area. A good place to start at least.

Boiling hot water will help, the only difficulty is that you have to then clear the water to inspect and that will be a problem if the drain pump doesn’t work?

    Best of luck!

It’s what you know Lawrence and how you go about it that counts 😆

Incidentally, If any of you folks would like a copy of either or both Evil Twin adverts, simply e-mail me (not pm) and I will forward them to you direct! (I personally believe them to be the best of the current .mpeg adverts in circulation)

    Re: New Appliance Sales

A UKW buying group is a great idea. I used to have quite a viable trade in supplying machines to my customers years back. (Was a Hotpoint Centre buying direct from Hotpoint who paid 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my advertising costs as well)But I stopped after I found generally my profit margin dropped to below 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. Just couldn’t compete with Currys/ Comet etc.

These days of course I can supply new appliances to my customers via the likes of Wash Vac (Excuse me….Parts Center). Hotpoint/Hoover etc delivered by the manufactures to my customer direct. But at bugger all profit really of around 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. Hardly worth the bother.

Just buying appliances on a ‘one off’ basis = No profit!

I will watch this thread with interest though.

I used to sell new appliances mainly to my older customers and take their old scrap appliances to the tidy tip for them

Keep flogging the new machines by all means, just leave the old ones outside your customers house and get them to phone the local council. It’s their problem after all!

When you fit a new pump or drum backplate to a machine, you don’t take the old one away do you?

Re: What is the most useful tool in your toolbox?

To drain water from dishwasher sumps I use a 3 feet long piece of PVC hose, fill the hose with water (as advised by Archimedes 2250 years ago we he found his dishwasher stopped pumping) hold the ends, one into the sump the other into a bowl and EUREKA !!!
