Agreed, a very good use of funds indeed. Hosting a site like this anywhere else would no doubt cost a lot more anyhow!

It covers the base of the appliance, sits in the subframe underneath and touches the floor. Most folks just throw it away thinking it as just packing. But according to the customer installation instructions it should be left in situ????

    Why?

One slight problem I have discovered since my last posting: –

When you click on ‘VIEW DRAWING’ then ‘FULL SCREEN’ then wish to click on ‘PREVIOUS’ or ‘NEXT’ the Parts List Screen pops up and covers the other half of the screen back up!!!!

Oh Dear, those software engineers need a slap for that!

I received my Partfinder 11 (Issue 2) today and I must say that a great deal of improvement has been made since Issue 1.

When you click on say, Motor, for example it actually goes straight to the motor section at last. Even gives pretty photo’s in many cases too!

Brian and his team are getting there, we just need things like Wiring Diagrams, Test Sequence Charts and possibly Fault Codes adding on to make the perfect package. That would in my mind make Merloni more creditable and create better cooperation within the trade.

I thought it worth while adding this comment from cookm of his recent experiences with these machines (Indesit W161) :-

Today I bought a new pressure switch (the guy in the shop said ‘they hardly ever fail’ but I gritted my teeth and bought it anyway – £14.85) and fitted it tonight. Set a full wash cycle going and, hey presto! 2 hours later it competed the programme without a hitch! To say I’m relieved would be an understatement…if it had been a control board fault it would cost over £80 WITHOUT the Eprom! Anyway, out of curiosity (and being an engineer!) I took the old pressure switch to pieces and found that there was quite a lot of burning evident on two contact faces of the 2-way device. I assume this may have caused a high resistance contact which probably explains the malfunction.

Very interesting experience and worth adding to this thread I think?

No Martin it is meant to be there, acts as a valve to prevent detergent wastage etc. Give it a good clean and put it back though!

    Wizard,

I am sure you will get a Corgi registered bloke/company to comment here soon enough (I’m not) But my thoughts are that you shouldn’t for your own sake as it may cause a problem if something goes wrong and your liability?

I know what your saying but best steer clear if I were you!

Do also check your PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE policy for cover! (I take it you have one of them?)

We are delighted to hear your comments. It bears out the fact that generally speaking pre 1998 produced machines are just fine and should be lovingly retained and maintained. But post 1998 and to be frank here for moment….just aren’t!

Nah! First thing I asked him was “Did he put it in writing?”…No!…so no evidence to pursue here I’m afraid as I would love a go at this one!

Re: Another Indesit timer clicking round

Had a peach of a job today on an Indesit WD12UK, Timer clicking round..the usual! Turned out to be a curtain hook in the pump, but to make sure there wasn’t more in the sump hose etc had to pull the machine out to do that.

Doing that was a right b***h of a job as it was tight into the furniture and cushion floor jammed under the front feet etc. Anyhow, got it out eventually only to find that the 4 Transit Bolts were still attached!!

I asked how old the machine was? was told it was about 4 years old and she was aware the machine vibrated a lot on spin to a point where the whole kitchen shakes!! She called out a Merloni engineer because of the excessive vibration when it was just a few weeks old. The Merloni engineer didn’t go to the trouble of pulling it out as I did, instead he just advised her to make sure she always washed a full load!!!

Conclusions to be drawn here are that Merloni Engineers are not, and that perhaps the Module we all love to hate so, actually did a great job ensuring smooth spin safety even when the drum is bolted down for 4 years!

    Merloni Elettrodomestici ciao baby!

Yes it is, and sometimes foreign bodies such as coins, collar stiffners and even credit cards!! can block the pipe leading to the water level chamber!

Re: Indesit W161 lamp flash codes

Possibly one of two faults likely here, but with theses machines it’s a bit poke and hope I’m afraid.

Firstly, the error code suggests a water level fault (Pressure Switch, crud in the water level system etc)

Secondly, a duff Module Circuit Board (heater circuit).
The latter can be confirmed simply by putting on a ‘Rinse & Spin only’ cycle. If it does that OK the Module may well be the guilty party?

After that it’s just guesswork really!
