You mentioned Brexit again Ken, yes that’ll be the reason AND, to my way of thinking, the solution. Once we sever ourselves from the Brussels dictats we are free to set our own goals. Perhaps too free to set our own VAT levels for the service industries thus reducing unnecessary waste and so on. Manufacturing returning to within our shores, Ebac expanding, ship building on the Clyde and so on. Dreams to reality as we watch the EU implode, Germany looking to us for answers. ….”I have a dream”…… as someone once said. 😉 😀

I seem to recall I had one a long while back with the same problem. It turned out to be the hot inlet valve open circuit.

Will there ever be a positive spin to this thread? It is nice to see that Tim has brought a little rational thinking toward these price hikes. Our job in the repair business is to work round these seemingly irrational hurdles by firstly accepting that prices will always rise when there is a demand and will fall by a similar margin when demand wains. Those at the top of the white goods food chain seem happy to inflict financial challenges on those minions below. We minions (tongue in cheek) should busy ourselves working around it.
Off topic comment : What ever became of idea of reducing the rate of VAT on repairs and servicing?

Almost certain as a result of the drum support shaft (aka drum spider) corroding and disintegrating during high speed spin. A costly thing to resolve and would require full strip down to determine exactly what parts required. A complete inner drum for starters. 🙁

Its cold out there in the garage so it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume we are talking condensation issues affecting the electronics?

Why don’t you simply refit the aquastop and turn on the stopcock?

……and to add to the mix of random pricing. If you bought direct from BSH with a 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} trade discount that part becomes £47.16.

I’ve just trained my good ear to the short video and concluded it is the belt that needs replacing. Check the main drum pulley is secure on the central shaft whilst you’re at it.

The ‘problem’ is that GBP has taken hit on the world financial market as a direct result over the ‘short term’ uncertainties over Brexit. However short that short term will be depends on many factors. It could be months it could be years. The outlook for the U.K as a whole is good however not so for the white goods industry as its central core is firmly entrenched within Europe.
The good news is that when GBP once again increased in value, which it will, all will be well. 😀

As Don mentioned there are indeed 2 versions. Yours is part number 00641770 (formally listed as 642623).

For the drum bearings to fail in 2yrs that cannot be classified as fair wear and tear to a point where they would refuse to fix it FOC. Unless you are running a B&B or hairdressing salon and it is operated without the terms & conditions of the warranty.
If it is used domestically only and appears in prime condition to the engineer on inspection AND has no signs of being tampered with by yourself, then no worries.

If the bearings are a problem and you have registered your purchase then Siemens will call and fix it for you completely free of any charge, no ifs or buts.

ParticipantRe: Siemens machine – bearings shot – recommendations please
Lazarus you asked the question back in 2014 as to what machine to buy. On recommendation you invested in a Siemens and now 2 yrs later you are certain the bearings on it are shot. Are you sure? It is comprehensively covered by a 5 yr warranty ( provided you registered your purchase with them initially). So, your next step is to call them out to fix it, assuming your diagnosis is correct that is?

ParticipantRe: Siemens iq300 – Access wash count? Possible?
The manufacturers service engineers can call and interrogate the electronic hardware to establish how many cycles but that will cost you the princely sum of £95 in Her Majesty’s currency.
A free alternative is to establish exactly how many loads it does in a typical week then multiply by 50 weeks (typical year total less 2 weeks annual holiday) and multiply that by how many years old it is.
I’d go for the free option personally 😉
