ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WT741 Outer Tank Split
Managed to remove obstruction which was out of sight just under front of drum,
and the tangled bra wire left a lovely little hole somewhere around the back of the lower concrete weight. Water poured out,
another one bites the dust…
Customer said she was going out to buy the cheapest machine she could find!

Sorry Jim, didnt mean to slag off Hotpoint of old, plenty of their trusty old machines still going strong and putting money in our pockets, and like I keep emloring my customers, if you still have a WM machine, hang on to it for dear life for both our sakes!
Looks like I am going back with an array of magnets, mirrors and bits of coathanger tomorrow morning as well as a print off of the article you kindly directed me to via the link.
I must be leading a sheltered life as this is the first sealed drum I have come up against.

Thanks Jim.
When I worked for Hoover many years ago I was awarded a silver pen for suggesting a cost cutting measure that probably saved the company millions. (ok. maaybe not that much) but it looks like the end result of these cost cutting emloyee suggestions has resulted in….
😈 An outer tank that cannot be split !! 👿
Got an idea for Hotpoint to rebrand under a new, posh sounding name

Not thought of this angle but can see the movement of the drum would allow the water level to drop which in turn releases the pressure switch.
It caan affect empty out but not always, happens mainly on Hoover logics and Hotpoint wma range.

Have you checked sump hose for kinks, twists or sagging after swopping pump?

ParticipantRe: What the bleep !
Went back today, checked machine over thoroughly and found that the outlet pump although getting a 240 supply was not kicking in.
New pump, job sorted.

Yes it is frustrating, ill tell you what gets right up my nose if the motor only needs brushes, in some cases im not rewarded for my honesty here, im told that £38 to £48 all in for changing brushes is over priced and goodbye, or even better thanks for coming ill get od job down the road to change them instead,
Solution, never tell your customer what needs doing!
Tell them the machine has an electrical fault and that new parts are required. Thats it. Then you adopt the broken record technique to any questions, electrical parts required. If pushed I say that my estimate is for price only and that I do not give details of the actual repair because, “believe it or not sir/madam, and I know your not one of these, but some people actually call me out to find out whats up so they can do the repair themselves”!Don’t undervalue your years of experience and most importantly your honesty. The truth is that anyone who whines about your very cheap £38 to £48 price tag is actually getting at least a 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} lower qoute than if they called out the manufacturer or a man in a blue van!
Also, not for me to say but £38 for any brush change is selling yourself short, after you have deducted your overheads (about 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} usually) and cost of parts you are probably making £10 if your lucky. £38 plus parts at retail value is more realistic. Just my opinion.

(edit)Just to make it clear I do tell customer what I have done after I have been paid and leave old parts with customer.neilsukwg

Partial blockage?
Or coin acting as butterfly valve in pipes?

ParticipantRe: Tumble dryer fires
Fixing a washing machine for a fireman a while back he told me that tumble dryer fires are a daily occurence (and surprisingly washing machines very common to)
Maybe a trip down to the local fire station would be a good source of information and anecdotal evidence?

ParticipantRe: INDESIT WIL163S – NTC FAULT?
I havnt read the manual but can confirm that a replacement ntc has worked both times I have had that fill/mt fault.
One of those actually worked after I merely removed and cleaned up the connection to the ntc.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi WDS1183
usually a blockage even if machine works ok on normal discharge, a slight blockage will send dry cycle up the wall.
Check condenser for blockage as well.neilsukwg
ParticipantRe: Indesit WIL163UK Motor or Module problem?
Was that spinning fine with or without load?
I would suspect a faulty armature, think of all those faulty hpt armatures you must have changed over the years with exact same symptoms. (When you could still get armatures!)
